Kerry left the cafe and walked into his room. Macy wasn't in his. Of course it was empty. Macy was probably out with Ryan or trying to get some girls to look at him. He fell face-down onto the bed, letting his arms flop down

Patsy lingered in the doorway and knocked, announcing her arrival.
"Umm...hello. I just wanted to let you know that the Mall Rats aren't always like that. So quiet and akward. We really are friendly people..."
Really friendly people? Smooth, Patsy. Why was she being such a moron? All she wanted to do was set the record straight. The Mall Rats were nice people.
Patsy laughed akwardly. "I know what you mean. Cloe told me I just need to get a boyfriend, so I won't be jealous of her. As if it were that simple. Gel is nice, though. She dyed my hair for me. I haven't known her too long, but she seems cool."
Kerry grinned at her, sitting back down on the edge of his bed. "Sounds like Cloe just wants you to have fun since she may not be around much." He took his boots off and raised his knees to his chest, resting his chin on them.
"I mean, I don't know much about relationships, but I know that they take up a lot of time and everyone doesn't get the usual amount of attention.. Maybe that's how it is." He looked down, embarrassed.
"Yeah, me either." Patsy sat down on the edge of the bed as well, but not right next to Kerry.
"Cloe is always with Ved. Amber and Bray are together most of the time, too. But they're getting married. Salene, she's always so busy with running everything, she barely has time for Ryan. Patch is so shy I don't think he'll ever really get with Dee because he won't tell her. And Ellie...I have no idea what's going on with her. She used to be in love with Jack. But now she's with Luke? I don't know. I haven't been paying attention to those three. It seems like relationships are too much work. But it isn't as though I'd know first-hand."
Patsy was amazed at how easily she was talking with someone she barely knew. It was nice.
"From what Ryan told me about Salene, I had always thought relationships started with people being friends first. You know, someone they could talk to and had things in common with. But Macy thinks it's just the looks."
He turned his head, resting on his cheek and looking at her. "Sometimes I don't know why I listen to him. He has no idea what he's going on about half of the time."
Patsy nodded. "But like I said, I wouldn't really know."
Patsy turned and noticed Kerry looking at her. What had that meant, what he had just said? Was he flirting with her? Patsy told herself it was impossible. Kerry was just being friendly. He didn't like her like her. No one did. And besides, Patsy didn't like him that was either. Of course, she had nothing to compare it to. She liked Kerry more than she had really liked any of the other boys around the mall. She laughed on the inside and told herself to pull it together and be normal.
Patsy stammered a little as she tried to think of something to say, and blushed from the embarassment.
Kerry smiled ar her when she started to blush. She was really pretty, exactly the type of girl who would never be interested in him. But there was a question he wanted to ask.
"Patsy, before you mentioned the Chosen and how they kept you for a while. Where?"
"Um...I'm not sure. One of the mines. But I don't know where. When I left...I just headed for whichever direction felt safe to me. I was there for a long time. It was awful. But...better than being killed, which is what they wanted to do to me."
Patsy sighed. Interestingly enough, this was much easier to tak about now. Being a prisoner. She supposed that was a good thing. "I was a spy. For the Mall Rats...when the Chosen found out, they wanted me executed."
Wandering the halls, he found himself outside the new kid's room he tried to talk to earlier. Patsy was there now, maybe he could get caught up with her as well. It was worth a shot anyway. KC knocked tentativly, "Am I interrupting anything?"
Kerry frowned when Patsy mentioned the mines. He had helped Ryan liberate quite a few, but her's was probably one of the secluded ones they couldn't risk looking for. That made him feel even worse. He could've helped her get out, saved her the pain, reunited her with Ryan, gotten to know her...
He opened his mouth to say something, but the boy he had seen downstairs knocked, his head snapped up and he looked at him like he was a deer caught in the headlights.
"No, no you're not interrupting anything. We were just talking..." He sighed. He wanted more time with Patsy.
KC could feel the unwelcomeness in Kerry's tone. Did anyone want him around anymore? He didn't really 'need' anything...just company, but he wouldn't admit it. How could he turn this to his advantage? Hmm...Patsy was there, she'd tip him off to anything KC'd like to try anyway. It just wasn't a good day to be home. As he'd approached them he thought he'd heard Patsy say she was in the mines. That's a shame, a girl like her...he supposed it could happen to anyone... Able to think of anything KC stood dazed, "I, uh, nothing...I was just, I thought you were someone else."
