“It’s coming, it’s coming!” Sam cried.

His mind was a whirl. What if Mr. Frodo hated it? What if he took against it, it being unnatural, like? He felt his stomach churning.

Frodo groaned, pitifully. “When is it coming?” he demanded.

Sam looked out of the window of Bag End and down the lane. His heart soared.

“It’s coming now!” he cried, joyfully.

A moment later there was a rap at the door and Gandalf gingerly entered. He smiled indulgently at Frodo, big with child, and then opened his cloak to reveal a dish full of ice cream and pickles.
