Well Read Mondays

One of my personal goals for this year is to ramp up my YA fiction reading. Enough of promising myself I would read -- now I am!
So here is the list so far, tragically short as I only began getting serious about this toward the end of January.

Haha, I already read a lot of these years ago. They slant a lil young for the internship I am doing now but who knows -- adding 'em.

How was How Not To Be Popular? I've been meaning to read it.

And I recommend Mockingbird by Kathryn Erskine. It's a children's book and a quick read. You could easily finish it during your commute.

How Not was adorable and actually laugh out loud funny at spots. I got funny looks on the train. It went a lil Mean Girls toward the end (so it was a bit predictable) but still a good read. So something to get from the library rather than buy. I put Mockingbird on the list when I saw you reading it!

Also - The Big Crunch by Pete Hautman and Almost Perfect by Brian Katcher. I feel like I've told you about the last one before though.

A Grimm Legacy
Book of a Thousand Days
Princess Academy
A Great and Terrible Beauty

And I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting, those are just some that I've read and enjoyed recently.

A Great and Terrible Beauty is already on the list but the rest look amazing. You seem to have similar interests to me -- I adore classical retellings of myths/fairy tales (doesn't matter what culture).

Are you on Goodreads? If you are, we should totally be friends and see how similar our book tastes are :)

Another couple books I've loved are the Firebird compilations. Lots of short stories in the fantasy/science fiction genre. Edited by Sharyn November.

I was recataloguing The Little Prince today! And Shug was just processed into the library. Why do you like it?

My internship advisor loved The summer I Turned Pretty but it looks like the exact type of teen book I cannot stand: one entirely devoted to teenage love. Gross.

And I've already read Harry Potter so those books don't need to go on the list. I mean, I play quiddith. Tho I was going to reread them all if I have time between my other books.

BSC is still around but it is in graphic novel form (mostly) by a really cute author/artist. I read her work Smile, which is autobiographic story about her horrible experiences of orthodontic work. Really struck a cord with me. I actually got to meet her and she autographed a book for my parents. Being a librarian is awesome.
