Itachi was without opinion on the day he had spent with Aaron; all that could be said for it was that it had been somewhat eventful. He had been introduced to those Aaron was closest to and had lived with for a time before coming to be trapped in World's End. Similarly he had been given a chance to see Aaron in his natural habitat, or one that simulated it closely
( ... )
"Good." and he trotted down the last two flights, bare feet padding on the steps. With the fire warming up the room, it was a great deal nicer than when they had first arrived. Perhaps even cozy, in a strange way. Aaron welcomed it.
This was his home. He adored Pamela and Belus, and playing with them and catching up. He even had fun cooking despite the meager ingredients and crude utensils. It was one of the few ways that he honestly felt wanted and needed. It was nice to be appreciated for something you were good at...when you weren't good at too much else.
"I dunno. Maybe you and Sasuke should come snowboarding with me and Cloud next time!"
"Snow...what?" Not that it took a genius to imagine what Aaron meant given the context of the words that had been used, but Itachi still had difficulty imagining himself... associating with Cloud, much less snow, much less a board... and Aaron - and all at the same time. Not to mention Sasuke, which threw an already chaotic recipe into a state of pending Armageddon.
It seemed the blond was intent on watching Itachi's social collapse become a public affair. If he was the type, he might have groaned just thinking about it.
Frowning, eyes still on the pot of water over the fire that was doing nothing but sitting there, Itachi said dryly, "I would not be a fun companion on such an excursion. Make Sasuke tag along."
"Snowboarding. It's where you take a snowboard. That would be that thing over there and surf over snow." he said with a grin, wandering closer. It was getting easier and easier with time to be around Itachi without fear. There was trepidation...but Itachi was constantly there and protecting him once more.
He was too tenderhearted for his own good, perhaps.
"I was teasing anyway. I know you aren't...Sasuke's not either for that matter." His head tilted to the side. "You're both fire users, so the cold probably doesn't work well for you."
"...I rather like to think I have a high tolerance for things that go against my nature," Itachi retorted quietly, eyes still on the fire, and the motionless water.
It was clear in the expression in his tone just what he meant by that... He didn't need to look at Aaron to get the point across.
"Yeah..." There was a moment of awkward silence as he seemed to pause, unsure what to say or do then. The point came across loud and clear and he began to fidget with the hem of his shirt then, glancing towards the door.
"Um....is the water almost hot? Some...tea would be nice." he said after a few moments of silence, easing closer.
"It is getting there... slowly," Itachi confirmed, seeing at last the first bubble rise upward in the water... not followed immediately by any others, of course. He ceased gazing at it so expectantly, letting his eyes instead travel toward Aaron, rising upward over his form before settling on his face.
He prompted gently, so as not to make it seem like an order, "If you would get the tea?"
"Yeah...of course." he murmured, seeming to snap out of his thoughts as he made his way towards the small box where the precious herbs were kept. He transferred it to Itachi in a matter of moments, glancing up at him curiously for a moment before stepping back.
"Thanks for staying with me today..." he said quietly before moving away, trying to keep from getting moody at an inappropriate moment.
The box was accepted, and Itachi knelt before the flames once more, tending to the water now gradually rising in temperature. He waited for it to come to a boil before adjusting the height, waiting for the bubbles to simmer... then added the bags of tea, letting the concoction steep.
At least this way the water was purified... as much as it could be, here.
"You needn't thank me," he murmured. "Someone had to stay with you to keep you out of trouble. And... it was not so bad."
"I don't get into trouble that often!" he protested quietly, slipping closer, watching him curiously. It was a now or never sort of moment, with Sasuke well out of earshot and Aaron needing answers.
He took a deep breath, his hands returning to worrying the hem of his shirt.
"Itachi..." he began, pausing once, then taking another deep breath.
"Why...did you kiss me?" there was no revulsion or disgust in his soft voice. Just curiosity and uncertainty.
