Just because their meeting was inevitable didn’t mean Steve was looking forward to it, though that was obvious enough in the hesitant way he moved up the trail leading to the rendezvous point. His eyes were pointedly kept down, focused on the small handheld communicator, which was opened to the map. Even when he stepped onto the bridge, he didn’t immediately look at Alexia, opting to play it cool, like there were more important things happening on the device. Yeah.

Maps: vastly entertaining to a 17 year old.

Finally shutting the device off, Steve tossed it so flipped it once, caught it, and then shoved it into his coat pocket. He leaned lightly against the railing opposite Alexia, studying the woman briefly before diverting his attention to the water. He did not want to admit that some scrawny blonde chick intimidated him, but… well, she did. Maybe without the lab coat, she’d be a little less creepy. Probably not. This was the woman who’d turned him into some kind of circus freak, after all ( ... )

Alexia regained her senses slowly, turning her attention to Steve as he approached and attempted to put on a front of casual bravado. Her head tipped up and she regarded him for a moment longer, before her mouth curved into a thin smile. That Ashford superiority bled back into her bearing as she slid down off the railing to stand, back straight and looking down her nose at him. Regardless of their respective heights ( ... )

Following the imminent eye rolling that came as a result of Queen Hosebeast’s attitude, Steve started after her. His pace was slow, cautious, and he kept an eye on the trees, to see if anything looked conspicuous. Not that he’d be able to stop her if she pulled anything. Well, he could, but that would involve transforming.

Which was not a course of action he wanted to take.

In spite of his trepidation, when Alexia looked back at him, Steve smirked. Showing fear to her would be like… wearing a steak shirt in a cage full of starving lions. He wasn’t good with metaphors. Shut up.

“So.” Talking would make him feel better-it was one of the few things he could claim to be good at in World’s End-so useless filler conversation, commence! “What’s on the agenda?”

Alexia sniffed, as clearly the boy had no appreciation for the dramatic qualities of silence. She had, in fact, fully intended to start filling him in on the details of what she was looking for by studying him--less a few important details of course. Needless to say, the juvenile tyrant needed some...direction now that he was back at her side, where he belonged. with care and effort, he'd become a better guard dog than any of those direwolves ( ... )
