The sermon was lengthy, not that Castiel minded at all, but seeing as Dean would at least be in attendance, and maybe Sam if Dean convinced him to come along, the angel knew that by the half way point, Dean would probably be squirming in his chair and getting that look. Dean had also clearly stated he would not be eating any crackers, but it should’ve appeased Dean enough when Castiel offered to trade Dean’s portion of The Body for Castiel’s portion of The Blood.

Now that the sermon was over and some were still milling about, Castiel broke away from his friend long enough to walk toward the priest who was cleaning up. His brow knit as he looked at the blond woman. It wasn’t the first time he had seen a human who once held the grace of heaven. However, that spark appeared to be gone now. “That was a compelling sermon.” He spoke up, letting himself be known a comfortable distance behind her.

Dean's...reactions to the service weren't missed by Gabriel, along with the trading of wafers for wine. She had walked past him a few times when she thought he might doze, her voice rising, "accidentally" knocking his shoulder with the back of her hand as she emphasized the Lord's greatness. It was only right, after all; he deserved it ( ... )

Lucky for him, Castiel was sitting at the inside of the pew, so he didn’t have to get glared over by Gabriel every time she tried to get Dean’s attention. Castiel would forgive Dean for falling asleep in church. The angel considered it a blessing that Dean decided to sit in a church to begin with, so he was already happy for small miracles.

There was a slight tilt of his head when Castiel noticed the look in Gabriel’s eyes. Already he knew that he had been here before. Dean told him that much, and so it’s only natural for some to recognize him, even if Cas didn’t know them. When asked about a verse he responded without much pause, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favour rests.Whether it was a real emphasis during the sermon or not, it stays with him. Especially these days, given what had happened between himself and Uriel, along with his own betrayal of heaven, all because of mankind, or perhaps one man ( ... )
