After two years in a virtual hell, it was odd seeing the place as anything but a cesspool for the damned to reside. This? All of this? The beach without monsters, the sky, the greenness of the trees... it all seemed odd, awkward in a way. Sasuke had been uncomfortable since everything happened, the world changing to this; with the good came the bad, and usually less of the first and more of the latter
( ... )
He turned to face him, peering upwards with a shy sort of smile that didn't reach his eyes. Always, those eyes looked at Sasuke, wanting something. Attention, protection, love, just to be recognized...whatever it was. As Sasuke arrived, he stood up quickly, one hand resting on the massive wolf's head for balance.
Blue eyes scanned Sasuke's jaw, something akin to guilt touching that face before he forced it away.
"Of course I came." He murmured softly, taking a slow step towards him.
"I really did want to see you. Still do." But he was attempting to keep from expressing too much and making Sasuke uncomfortable. After nearly two years, he'd learned slowly, bit by bit, when to keep certain things to himself.
This was one of those times to be careful in how he spoke with the other.
He watched Aaron stand, the wolf forever there, and Sasuke stopped where he stood, his hands empty just like his eyes. It was almost comical how opposite Aaron was from him, how different, expressive where Sasuke was not. He was a bullhorn while Sasuke was a deathsigh, the flamboyant symphony while Sasuke was the sullen statue.
"Are you sure?" And he asked it softer than the question should have been. Are you sure, it said, because I haven't changed my mind. Are you sure, because getting home is the most important thing to me still. Are you sure, because I can never make a life here.
His gaze flickered to the forgotten package, before moving closer to Aaron, gliding over sand and stone only to wrap a strong arm around the smaller waist and pull him near, against him.
"Are you really so sure you want to see me?" he muttered next to one ear. "Because I am not the person you want me to be."
They were as different as day and night. Aaron was bright and cheerful, a ray of sunlight that did it's best to reach out to everyone around him, whereas Sasuke was sullen and quiet, the slinking shadows that heralded the night. But still, they seemed to work somehow. Quiet and loud, gentle and deadly.
He could never say quite how he felt; it hurt Aaron to think about it in depth. A sweet sort of ache that was only mildly alleviated when Sasuke was holding him close. the voice against his ear was a warm breath and he shivered, curling closer, arms wrapping about the shinobi's neck, pressing his cheek to Sasuke's.
"Of course I'm sure." he said softly, closing his eyes. I'll always be here, and when you here, I need you. I'll never give up...but I'll try not to get in your way. Were the silent words that passed between them, unheard but understood.

"I just want you to be you..." he added bravely.
