When he first came to World's End, one of Gambit's main objectives was to have a shifty around the entire city. He had gone into the Old Hospital (briefly), poked around Castle Nobody, and had met L around the Schoolhouse. However, when coming to the graveyard, and closer to the Temple, he'd experienced the same feeling of being around the School. A distinct feeling of "Bra, you don't wan' a gris-gris* on ya, turn around. And so he had ( ... )

He might have known Gambit would be first on the scene. His fingers left the lyre strings and he tucked it away again, regarding the other man from behind his fall of blond hair. "I'm not sure whether or not I should hope you end up cursing your curiosity, Gambit," he quipped by way of reply, a cool smile laced into his voice. Of those deeper, darker thoughts skirting about his mind, there was no sign, of course, and his eyes flicked from the mutant in front of him to the darkness behind him, and then back up the overgrown path that snaked between the tombs. Some of them had those strange little flowers that were said to grow only for the dead in Hyrule, those three-petalled blossoms that shone in the sunlight ( ... )

"Oh, I got about two or three lives left bra," he said, taking a drag and looking about him. It was certainly weird, the way the light just seemed to vanish the closer they got to the entrance. But Gambit was (is?) an X-man, and weird things happened all the time. He slid it aside as something to expect.

He watched the way Sheik seemed to go into himself, for the briefest moment, before he spoke to him again. It was incredibly fast; he was lucky to catch it. What was on his mind?

"My eyes?" He repeated, and drew out his cards, shuffling the deck. "I be a ready made torch, mon ami." He held one up and charged it. The sudden burst of magenta light pushed the shadows back a little farther.

"Two or three." He seemed to muse on that for a moment, then gave an amused little shrug. "For your sake, I hope that's enough." Because, of course, Sheik wouldn't be dragging him out if it turned out not to be. Of course. The flare of light still drew his eye even if he was aware of Gambit's power by now (there had, after all, been that particularly informative - and amusing - time involving a dumpapple the man had been eating) and he watched as the shadows curled in the air around and then away from it, as if they were a living, breathing thing recoiling. And that little idea was funny in itself, considering the mausoleum they were set to peruse. He hoped that the shadow within wouldn't swallow up too much of the light ( ... )

His eyes lingered on the spot where the last Garo had been a moment after it exploded, but he wasted no time. "Come," he said, beginning to climb the ladder which led to the door. It held, thankfully, but the climb was surprisingly long - far longer than he'd estimated it to be, in fact, and he knew it was the Temple's magic again, that power set to confuse and distract from the goal. All three of those travelling through it seemed the type it was difficult to distract, however. That was something to be grateful for. He opened the door, and stepped into the corridor ( ... )

... Well, maybe he was going to have to thank the scythe delivering the final kill, for backing away from it had unintentionally saved him from the explosion. It was a moment like that in which Riku was thankful for quick reflexes. Even as his eyes watched Gambit, he observed the Garo and took his words in with a grain of salt. Was that honorable or cowardly? The line so seemed to blur these days. Following the Sheikah, he climbed and climbed until the muscles of his arm and thighs seemed to burn. Fabrication, he knew. The same lies of weariness Maleficent would play in Dungeons. Hopping to the platform after him, following through the previously barred door, only to have his senses assaulted ( ... )

He jumped out of the way just before the Garo followed its friends. Its words didn't send a prickle up the back of Gambit's neck, but he felt that the hairs there settling was going to feel strange after leaving this place. Not what they were looking for? Maybe it would be a wasted trip. He hoped not.

Damn, but he could use that cigarette.

Dodging the revolving blades, he followed Sheik and Riku up the ladder and into the room. The sudden blast of voices nearly made him reel, made bile rise in his throat. Was this like an assault from Xavier? Jean? If they just decided to barge into your head and drop their words in, would it feel like this? Or was it more like the sensation of Rogue's lips touching his?

No, no, no. They didn't get to use her against him. A few well-aimed cards caught the bats, pink explosions mingling with the blue flame as they died. After the noise of rustling wings and dying shrieks, the swell from the temple only came up more. The groans, low and moaning as they were, like from any good zombie flick, were ( ... )

Sheik was not so quick to simply run past. He was a Sheikah, after all, and he had his duty to attend to, that which served the living, and that which served the dead. Restless souls wander where they don't belong, bring them calm with the Sun's Song, so it went, but as it happened, it took a bit more than music. Blade in hand again, he set himself to slaying them (again, as it were), hoping to do so before they could begin moving again. At least this meant they wouldn't be followed, after all, something his fellows had apparently overlooked.

They lay on the floor, twitching as death came over them again, and he ran on to catch up, not bothering to ask about whatever irritating song Gambit was humming was. Oddly enough, it seemed to have quietened the general noise of the place a little, as if the voices were listening in. He shot the man a dubious look, a you notice it, don't you, before moving on, looking around. The corridor continued on, a straight labyrinth of hidden pits, lined with those grinning faces ( ... )
