Using "dissociation" to maintain your physical endurance

Yes! I too use this "dissociation" technique when I run or swim long-distance! I ignore everything in the world---my pain, my exhaustion, the cold weather, and sometimes how far I have left to go. i have to use dissociation with running, guh i hate running SO fucking much! however swimming, once i get past hump of "ow," i can relax into it, making it more of a meditation-centering experience than a work out. of course, that's only if i'm in a lake or at Barton Springs where I can just swim and swim with no worries of having to do flip turns ;)

Ahhh...I so envy you guys who can "swim and swim" without noticing fatigue. I'm trying to get to that point. :p

When I worked in Austin for Applied Materials, I remember Lake Travis. They let people just swim at Barton Springs?

Hehe...I'm not a big fan of running either. It's like getting your teeth cleaned or doing your taxes.

i'm super comfortable in water, it's my preferred meditation medium to be honest.

I'm not sure i understand what you mean about Barton Springs... it's a natural spring fed swimming pool, so of course they let people swim there. I think you're thinking of Town Lake, which is not a really nice place to swim ;)
