Went to NYCC, Friday was great, got to see panels featuring Adam West/Burt Ward and then Peter Davison. But I once again made the mistake of going on Saturday ( Read more... )

I am no longer surprised that hugely successful events which embrace so-called "fringe interests" are treated as badly as they are. It seems as if events which do not involve sport or TV cameras are not of interest to city or other authorities.

Grr!

That is an interesting point, it doesn't involve sports, and there isn't much TV coverage of it.

exactly.

Example: Magic City Brewfest. Has been running successfully since 2005, bringing over 5000 people into Birmingham, AL to drink craft beer. Arrests: none. Ejections: averaging less than 1 per session. Assistance from city or county: nil. They didn't even reply to our requests to run a shuttle bus from 5 Points to the venue.

Some idiots want to throw a chunk of dead pig around, or want to play baseball? The city, county, and state fall over themselves to provide incentives. Our event has been consistently profitable, while the record of benefits from the sports events is somewhat patchy at best. But because it's sports they get everything handed to them on a plate. How many arrests at each game? You don't want to know.

So freaking annoying.

The problem is Jacob Javits is so far from everything. Traveling back and forth to other locations might be a pain. Still, it is getting dangerous and they need to do something to fix it!

Traveling back and fourth might be a pain, so perhaps they could come up with ways of keeping people in other locations so they are less likely to want to go to Javits on Saturday afternoon. Have tracks for different subjects, and on Saturday keep all the panels in specific areas. Say have all the horror/sci fi related events further down on 34th. For example have The Walking Dead panel from 11:00 to 11:45 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden which people get tickets to. Then give them options for less expensive but interesting panels at the Loews 34th Street across the street in sessions from 12:30 to 1:15 and 1:15-3:00.

So how was the panel? I didn't realize Peter Davison was going to be there until it was too late to do anything about it.

The Peter Davison panel was excellent, he was an excellent guest, despite the interviewer asking him about the Cybermen being created during his tenure as The Doctor.
