What the heck LJ, I keep getting more and more people adding me as friends. All of them seem to be Russian political blogs,with entries. What is attracting these people? Is everyone getting these things adding them?

in Russia, LJ is pretty much the only platform that allows freedom of speech. So the Ryssian government is doing all it can to compromise LJ as a platform - hence all the DDOS attacks.

Having a load of troll/spam LJ bots makes sense as the next step to try to subvert LJ as a medium.

If you ban them do they cease to be on your LJ "friend of," list? Been on LJ a long time and have never had to ban someone.

They do disappear off my list.

Don't ban them--report them as spam/bots. Then LJ can actually DO something about them.

According to a British friend of mine, the Russians use LJ to spread propaganda. Apparently that's where most of the denial of service attacks come from; with one political group targetting other political groups.
