why is it bad that she spoke to you in english?

Because we're not in America, and I didn't speak English to her first. Many Israelis do this thing where they hear you speak Hebrew with an American accent, and even if your Hebrew is fine, they switch to English to show off. It doesn't bother me when the person has fluent English and they feel as comfortable (or more comfortable) in English as they do in Hebrew, but when it's broken English, it just seems condescending.
