[Spock sits on a bench in the arboretum watching the blossoms from the cherry tree float prettily to the floor. He has come here seeking a moment of stillness to collect his thoughts, and to quell some of the ever-present emotions which plague him from time to time.]

((Totally open, but the lovely Uhura ltnuhura will also be tagging.))

[She's still feeling a little discombobulated, especially now that Gaila's shown up. Not that she's not happy to see her friend again, but it went back to what she'd thought about when Spock's mother had arrived. Almost everyone she'd talked to since arriving here had felt stuck, some were trying to find a way out as fast as possible. And Amanda and Gaila were happy to be there, because as long as they were here, it meant that they were still alive.

It's heartbreaking to think about, which is why she hasn't been, not that much. At least not until now.

And then there's the stress she's been feeling in general lately, about a few things. Thoughts and feelings that she can't quite put a name to, which bothers even her more because that's her job - to translate, to find ways to describe things with words. The fact that she can't makes her feel inadequate, and she doesn't like it ( ... )

[He hears her footsteps well before she comes into peripheral vision. And as always, he feels his spirits lift. Despite his desire for solitude, he always has time for her. It is not an unwelcome intrusion when it is her. He moves to stand in her presence, a mark of the respect he has for her. And since they appear to be alone for the meantime, he allows himself to speak more familiarly and with more tenderness than he would have had they been in the presence of others.]

[She manages a smile for him as he stands to greet her and reaches for his hand when he's close enough for her to do so. She's not clinging, the tips of her fingers just grazing the back of his, but the contact is somehow soothing to her anyway.]

What brings you down here?

[The gesture soothes him also. Though in ways, perhaps, he cannot ever fully articulate. He knows that he is not as forthcoming as she would like, and yet, she accepts. For this reason, among many, he is grateful.]

I sought to quieten my mind. To seek equilibrium in the reassuring yet subtle growth of living things in this garden. I have had much to think about since the incident with the Narada, and our placement here upon this starbase.

It has been...a difficult adjustment period. For all of us.
