Love em, hate em, they're family.

I'd go for it, myself, but not expect any emotional goodies from her in the short term, because we'd be actually strangers with some DNA in common. But that's me. Good luck?

Hey Bec, been a while. DNA strangers eh? Yeah I suppose you're right. After all even our upbringing was different.

I dont expect anything really, I'm not looking to be best friends and sisters, just think she needs to know how much we love and miss her.

There are two sides to every story, and the further the people telling those story are separated, the more different the stories become. You're both suffering from decades of old memories, with the big difference being that her memories of your family are frozen at the time she left. I would think, with her background, that she'd be open minded enough to accept things have changed; but most people aren't open minded about their childhood experiences.

My advice? Open Pandora's box. You never know if you don't try.

By the way, I wanted to ask you if you might have heard of her. She's been published in journals and magazines you might have read. I cant spell what she changed her first name to, some Celtic form of Kelly. But she writes as C.S. MacCath.
