Unintended consequences of going after the tax havens. I find the Turks and Caicos situation astounding. I know the place is kinda small but to have "no known financial assets of any kind" and owe $133m"?! That's...why, that's just criminal!

I've been following the TCI situation with some interest, as it has some relevance to the concept of the "viability" of very small states.

I immediately thought of your post when I read the story, and the whole "viability" thing came back to me. I wonder if these recent moves are an effort to light a fire under the collective backsides of the leadership regarding their gross mismanagement of the place or if there's something else at work.

A tightening of tax laws as hinted at during the G20 summit would threaten not just TCI's status quo but also future financial inflows. Hmm.
