Last Saturday, KB and I went up to Between Books In Claymont Delaware, for a book-signing party by the Liar's Club. The L's C consists of about 13 authors who write a variety of narrative--mystery, SF, historical fiction, YA, Fantasy and Horror.

We arrived about ten minutes after 3 and with the presentation already in progress. The Liar's Club is ( Read more... )

Letting go of those manuscripts always seems to be the hardest part, doesn't it?

Yes, there's always the possibility that you've overlooked something truly embarrassing.

In the case of Earthbow volume 1, I am -still- waiting for other opinions. This makes it particularly hard for me to allow Earthbow volume 1 into print.

As I've mentioned, I do have an editor, but he is otherwise (and VERY legitimately) occupied over the next couple of weeks. If we can pick up where we left off as planned, we should just have time to go through the remaining chapters to volume 1 together before DaveW needs the final version of the manuscript.

Then there's the other hand, Kev. I've been working on Earthbow for so long, off-and-on, that I will be glad to get editorial clearance and just let it go into print.

I can totally understand that...

But just so I'm sure I understand -- they're re-releasing Seabird in two volumes?

Yes, that's right. Seaibrd will be split and exactly the halfway point --a really good place--and will be pubbed as a slightly smaller size (7 inch maybe?) duology.
When Earthbow comes out, it will also be presented as a duology, since it also has a nice break at the halfway point. (I just write that way. What can I say?)

The "behemoth" as I always call it will probably be a trilogy someday, whereas other Narentan books (like Marooned) will be small standalone single volumes.

You have a very old version of the manuscript. I can let you have one updated yesterday for cheap. It will be in your mailbox shortly.

Congratulations on sticking it ut through JulNo. As you may have guessed, I had to give up with too many other demands on my time that really had to be done at once.

Thanks for posting and again offering.

25K that you didn't have before. Congratulations!!!

As for the manuscript I sent, bear in mind that it consists of Earthbow volumes 1 & 2. The deadline for getting things ready in time for a Mid-November release applies only to the first half of that manuscript, aka vol.1 aka chapters 1-33 aka about 90k words or a typical book.

p.s. What have you got against peas?

Sounds like you got a lot accomplished and had a productive day, if a long one.

It seemed an incredibly long 3 hours at the time. Largely, that was because the store is not the most comfortable place in which to kill time. (Great stock but hard to find things--for me--and too hot this time of year.)
Of course, as you said, once it was over, it was well worth it!

At this point DW says he is sending a trial copy of Seabird vol.1 to me. I have no idea yet what it will look like but assume that he stuck to "An Invitation" since that was the last subtitle that he mentioned. As soon as copies become available on Amazon --DW was shooting for the 11th-- I'll make sure that Greg knows about it. He will order via Ingram but it's safer to wait and be sure before "reminding" him of the date the volume is supposed to come out.

Personally I think something more general like "Seabird" would make a better title for a first book than something more specific. Plus, there's the seabird necklace at the beginning. Something more general would pull me in more than something more specific/concrete. But maybe that's just me. Anyway, very excited to see that Earthbow is getting closer to print!

Thanks Andrew!

I thought the first half should have been called The Amulet, i.e. the seabird necklace. An Invitation happens to be the title of the first chapter of Seabird, and that's what Dave decided to go with. I believe that the second half will be called some variant of The Place of Three Tombs. I'm curious to see what the cover will look like. Seabird's part 2 is due out in just a few weeks.

As I wrote here, we are treating Earthbow as a duology, and its first half will be published in early November-- God willing and the creeks don't rise. I really look forward to getting this first half in print! By the way, I haven't got a clue about the individual titles for the Earthbow duology. Earthbow chapters do not even have tiles currently.

How are you doing Andrew? Respond at the gmail address if you like.
