There's Good & There's Bad

Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Well, since I have to write this without anyone's input, you get the good news first.

The big bright note! I finished checking the Spencer Hill editor's suggestions for my "Shadow Harper" story yesterday.  It took far less time than I had anticipated because I agreed with nearly everything that Read more... )

Sounds like a tough situation. Does that water bill only account for water, and not other things like garbage and sewer ( ... )

I'm sorry to hear about the bad parts, but the good parts are definitely good!

Thanks very much, Kev! This is one of my favorite short stories. Of course, I've never been good a writing short stories, so making the sale is a big deal for me. And I feel like Spencer Hill gets behind their books and authors and makes great efforts to promote them. That is so cool!

I'm very excited to report that I just pre-ordered my own copy on Amazon. :D

Sherry,

Happy I'm not under "bad" or "ugly." :)

My husband and I have moved six times in the eleven years we've been married, and I have several thousand books, including a ton of textbooks from my grad school and teaching days. I found that getting 8x8x12" boxes, filling a couple each day, labeling them (BC1 SH2 = bookcase 1, shelf 2) and leaving them packed on the bookshelves really made the moving bearable and unpacking and set-up easy.

Hearing aids aren't cheap; I recently helped a family member get one. On the plus side, it's half price if you only need the one ear.

Take care! - Kate

Urp!

A family member once said, "Always say something nice about people because you never know who's listening."
I'm glad I believe that, and that I had no reason to file you under "Bad" or "Ugly" anyway.

Re packing books: Once packed did everything on a shelf fit back on said shelf for you?

I'm guessing that wouldn't happen here since I have many books squeezed sideways on top of books and even double-shelved here and there. A good friend has been helping me dump various detritus for the last few weeks, and I'm indebted to him for his work. I wish I could have started that operation last winter.

Who knows what will happen? I may stay here another 11 years.

Yack!

Thanks for posting, Kate. May you always be filed under Good.

Hi again Kate! You also wrote, "My husband and I have moved six times in the eleven years we've been married..."

I'm slow sometimes and this went right past me originally.
That's more than a move every two years. Ouch!

I once changed residence in 3 years, which was my quickest. In that case, I was prompted by a fire that had gutted a building a few months before I took residence, followed by another 3 years later which gutted another one. My lease was almost up anyway, and I bugged out of there!

I'm thrilled about the story and the whole anthology, and I hope that you have a chance to read it someday.

The hearing test results and the hearing aid will be what they will be. Solving that can be postponed, so I'm not terribly concerned for now.

I'm fairly vocal about challenges in my life. Some might say "whimpery". Most people who need to know are now aware that I have hearing loss in one ear. I hope that they keep it in mind for now and don't get aggravated if I ask them to "Speak up, kiddo. I used to have ears like yours but not any more!"
