Some Midsummer Catching Up

Aug 08, 2011 12:21

I was inspired to write this because of a thread at the Lost Genre Guild on the same subject.
I actually have nothing extraordinarily new. I'm just plugging away at many of the same things you've heard me talk about.

1.  I'm reading Kat's "Finding Angel"
( http://kat-findingangel.blogspot.com/2011/07/reality-is-sinking-in.html )   in manuscript, or ( Read more... )

librarything, midsummer 2011, arisia, lost genre guild, ocean city new jersey, finding angel, written remains writers guild, gryphon and the basilisk, spencer hill press, wit-sec, earthbow, apartment clean-up

Hi there! Wow, you've got a full summer. Sounds marvelous. I don't get a summer vacation, just working the 9-5, but also trying to push through finishing a novel, editing stories for a short story anthology we're doing over at mad-docs-of-lit, reading/critting a friends novel, and hopefully before the year is out, revise another novel so maybe I can start shopping for agents.

Sometimes it feels impossible with working all the time, but lucky thing I love writing, I guess.

Hope you find that ending for your story and good luck with your summer projects!

Elsiewho(?!?!?), You sound like a busy person, too. I would not want to be revising one novel while finishing another while juggling a horror antho. Especially working full time. Good luck to you!

You said, "Sometimes it feels impossible with working all the time..."
Well, it ain't easy. Back from about 1979 to the early/mid-80's, I wrote the first drafts of my first two novels (Seabird and Earthbow) and about 2/3 of the humungous G&B, while I was working full time. I totally get where you're coming from.

Thanks for the well-wishing re the end for G&B!

You've joined LibraryThing! I knew you'd like it. I'll send you a friend request. I haven't updated mine in a while...

I've been working this summer and it's been rather stressful overall, but I've used my spare time for reading, including the second volume of Earthbow and several works by Diana Wynne Jones.

You've joined LibraryThing! I knew you'd like it. There are a few of the people from the Coinherence mailing list that are on there. I'll send you a friend request.

I've been working this summer. It's been rather stressful overall. But I have tried to catch up on reading in my spare time, including the second volume of Earthbow and several works by Diana Wynne Jones.

Hi, Andrew! I finally got back to you! Sorry about the screening glitch!
I did the LT friending bit a few hours ago, and glanced briefly at the books we have in common--which is a bunch!

I hoped you liked Earthbow vol.2. Which DWJ are you reading?

Which Coinh members are on LT? I think I saw Seraphim Sigrist, but didn't notice anyone else. I seem to be one of the few people who is basically using their own name on the site, so it's hard to figure out who is who.

I'm sorry that work this summer has been stressful. I hope that it gets better.

Steven Hayes (hayesstw) is also on LibraryThing. I don't know of any others.

I did like Earthbow, but like you said a while back, it's very dark for most of it. The one major section of non-dark was very beautiful, though.

The DWJ books I've read are the Chrestomanci series and the two Derkholm books (which seem perfectly set up for at least another one, if only...). Currently I'm on the third book of the Dalemark Quartet. Before that I've only read Howl's Moving Castle and its two companion books/sequels. Any suggestions of what else I should read?

I'm finishing the final draft on my novel before publication.

And a few other projects, such as translating for Amadis of Gaul, at http://amadisofgaul.blogspot.com/, so I'm ahead of the curve when I start posting again in September.

That, and a little reading, is filling up my free time.

Thanks for asking! Alas, there's no beach anywhere near me.

Thanks for responding!

I'm sure you're both excited & relieved about finishing your final draft. Congrats!
I went to your site, and found your description of the Amadis book fascinating! I wish I had time to backtrack and read all of the chapters you've pubbed so far.

Sorry about the no beach. Guess we'll have to suffer together--even though ironically we're separated by an ocean.

Since you are in Spain, I thought you might find the following site interesting. The photographer filmed everything from El Teide:

Oh, how I can commiserate on the junk! I am writing now, now that I've got a taskmaster of an editor. The good news is that she keeps me on track. Then there's the house to clean up...but that goes with the junk. On the day job--I didn't get to go on vacation either, though everyone else did...but I had my reasons for that.

So there's where I am for mid-summer!
