Because the LA Times website is a pain in the ass, even if they are printing articles on how much the public school system in California sucks balls.  I went to a private school and still can't math my way out of a paper bag, so I can't imagine how these kids feel.

why does high school fail so many? )

work, rant

first off, i admit that i have not read said article.

but, let me guess: it's everyone's fault except for the student themself?

I think they did a pretty good job of balancing the factors-- dearth of classrooms and teachers, not enough good teaching at the primary level, and yes-- students not doing their freaking homework.

But for what reasons? For the most part, kids WANT to succeed in school. They WANT people to be proud of them, and recognize their efforts. However, the system functions in such a way that broadcasts to students at an early age, that it doesn't matter if you do well or fuck up, so what difference does it make?

In a way, the adults are responsible, simply because we're ADULTS, and they are children. What are we doing giving them the impression that we don't give a shit?

Dude, read the article ;)

Thanks for posting these... I wouldn't've had time to go hunting for them.

I agree... the kids DO want to succeed. I see it everyday, and they *would* if they had teachers like me every step of the way. As it is, I end up feeling a tremendous amount of pressure to work miracles, and I simply cannot make up for years of deficiency on my own. It blows!! And I can't believe some of the people who end up in front of a classroom just because people aren't willing to do noble work for peanuts. I guess that makes me stupid.

Sigh... I'm tired. And I need to do some more WORK.
