Last Rites
They laid Robin’s body down in Kirklees Abbey. Everyone looked to Tuck... except Much, who gazed forlornly at his master.
Tuck ushered the others outside. First John - who understood at once - then Kate and Archer. He handed Much a cloth bag and left.
Much finally knelt, knees buckling, body giving way to grief. Inside the bag were two phials, one of holy water and one of scented oil. Alone together one last time, he anointed his beloved friend, prepared his body for burial, smoothed his hair and washed his face. Faithful servant, always. One last kiss fell on cold lips.
