Write Kate Right Competition
I am indebted to shaman_whore for having a brilliant idea about a new competition for the community. Incidentally, I think people outside of the community may also be interested, so if you're not a regular TMR person please don't feel excluded - everyone is very welcome to take part! So, I'm launching...
Write Kate Right Competition 2009
A lot of people seem to have a problem. Mostly, I think people object to the way the character is being used, rather than the creation of the character in itself. Her storylines have not only been rather lame, but also have caused no end of trouble for poor Much.
So, this is your opportunity to fix the situation! The point of Write Kate Right is to give you a chance to do something with the character that would fix what you perceive to be the problem with her. Perhaps you think she's completely useless and would like to write something where she gets killed off - that's fine if that's what you really feel would be best for the show! But I expect most of you will want to solve other problems - perhaps you'll write something where she gets a better storyline, or where her involvement in relationship plots is completely different, or where she treats Much better, or where she never has that annoying braid. Whatever you think is the problem with the character, fix it with a story.
Now, some disclaimers: Firstly, this is not a complaint about Joanne Froggatt, who I think is a very good actress. The problem is with the storylines. I know that I and a lot of other fans of Robin Hood have found it difficult to believe some recent storylines, and poor Kate often seems to be at the centre of it all. The idea here is to do something constructive - to show how the problems associated with Kate as a character might be resolved, and to showcase your ability to write in the process.
Rules
1) The word limit for stories is 1000 words. I'd like to keep this as strict as possible, so that it's fair for everyone. One entry per person, please.
2) The story must involve fixing what you see to be the problem with Kate's character. You can pick up at any point, since it's bound to be a bit AU whatever! So maybe you'll set it around the beginning of season 3, or maybe you'll choose to set it near the end of or after the season. It's up to you!
3) Since this is the Treat Much Right Campaign, your story must make reference to Much. He doesn't have to be the focal point of your story (though I expect that for some of you he will be!).
4) Please use the tag write kate right, as well as using your username as a tag, the 'fic' tag, and any appropriate pairing tags. Let me know if you need me to create any new tags.
5) Post your story as a separate post in this community, and please remember to use a cut because it's very likely everything posted for this challenge will contain season 3 spoilers!
6) The deadline for entries is Midnight Monday 29th June 2009 (which includes a small extension). After that, we'll have a poll to decide the winners!
