Summary: Allan’s feelings when the news broke out about the betrayal.

“There’s a spy.  In the camp.”

Much’s words had Allan’s heart stopping for an eternal instant.  He could feel the hot blood in his veins turn suddenly to ice, its movement stopped like the surface of a frozen river.

How did Robin find out? Allan thought back desperately, trying to remember when or how he had slipped up.  One thing was certain, he could not just admit that it was him, not the way the gang’s tempers were riding so high-they would tear him limb from limb and apologize to Robin later over his scattered remains.  He had learned two very important lessons as a thief-blending in was important, but so too, was denying guilt, even when confronted with it.  He went on the attack, particularly when Will-who he had looked on nearly as a little brother-turned eyes full of suspicion on him.

His un-beating heart full of pain and confusion, he attacked Will, backing down only when Little John came between them.  When everyone had stopped shouting, they all moved off to their separate little worlds, each suspicious of the other.  Allan saw Djaq with the pregnant woman, and decided to bring her some food.  If he could talk to anyone, it would be Djaq, but then he found himself unable to admit anything in front of the other woman.  Djaq seemed to know it was him though, and was urging him in a round about way to tell Robin, and to beg his forgiveness.

A part of Allan wanted to do just that, but another part balked at begging Robin for anything.  When Robin returned, their leader’s words were fierce.

“One chance.  Admit your guilt.”

The others were all so angry; Allan had hoped that maybe, if he could get Robin alone…but not like this, not with the others there to accuse and attack without Robin’s calming influence.  The opportunity passed, as Robin declared that he had had his chance and that he would be found out.  He knew he had to stop it now, and when Robin threw Will out later, after beating him and accusing him of being the spy, Allan knew it had gone too far.  He would make it right somehow, but first he had to get the message to Gisbourne that he was done spying for him.  Heart in his throat, full of misery, he headed for the Trip to Jerusalem Inn.
