Your experience with poetry and learning poetry sounds pretty much like mine. (I also suck at poetry.) It's great that it helped with your GYWO word count!
I'm so behind with Supernatural. I'm early season 8? Must watch more soon.
I've never realized how tough it is to write good poetry, until I was forced to do it to get a grade. Fortunately, my professor didn't care if it was good or bad, just that I wrote a poem, or two... or three. :) He even gave me some encouraging feedback at the parts that weren't so sucky, but I don't think I'll be focusing on poetry at all from now on, unless I have to!
The later seasons of that show weren't as great as the first several seasons, but they were still good enough to warrant me watching the whole series a second time, so yes, you should definitely watch more! :D

(I'm a little iffy on grading poetry and writing. Both can be so very... dependant on who is reading them... in terms of how they are taken? If that makes sense. As in... poetry and writing affect people differently, so therefore, how accurate can grades be, unless you get graded by a sizeable team or something? :P I don't know how well I'm explaining this...)
It's one of those shows I have to be in the exact right mood for. I'll get back to it when that mood strikes again. :) Actually, I have the first 8 seasons on DVD... and I've a feeling season 9 will have dropped in price to something reasonable soon. (DVD prices here are pretty high when things first come out, so I tend to wait.)
