Because sometimes you just feel like a whore

Last night at Bookman's I found a book "The Top 100 Pasta Sauce Recipes." It was on the bargain cart for $1. At a penny per recipe, how could I go wrong? The first recipe I decided to try was the puttanesca sauce. I don't think I'd ever had it before although I'd heard of it and I adore the fact that it was created by and named after Italian ( Read more... )

omg that sounds sooo good! i think when i have grocery money i will get the ingredients for it! my kids dont like me to vary my sauce recipe too much so im always game for something new... does that book have a good pesto recipe? also...
Actually, each of the sliced black olives ended up with a caper in their hole and I thought that was cute. that brought such a big smile to my face... thank you! its details like that that make me able to face the next time i have to cook. oh , and one more thing...
I don't think I would be inclined to sit down and eat a tin of anchovies just for the hell of it but they worked nicely in the sauce.
my dad used to do this! *gag* aaand , he used to make us take cod liver oil! *shudders* at least he followed the oil with a piece of peanut brittle!

Well, if you're short on money, it's very economical. I think the most expensive thing in it were the capers and they weren't all that much.

My dad used to eat sardines out of the tin and that grossed me out. But the only time I ever had cod liver oil was once in the hospital. I can't even remember why I was there. But thinking about it now, cod liver oil seems about as medically advanced as using leeches.

Hmmm, I should try whole wheat spaghetti--it's a point less per cup than the regular stuff. Although maybe I shouldn't, since I'll want to dump half a cup of parmesan on it--it's like taking an alcoholic to hang out in a bar.

Also, of course, the recipe includes my kryptonite. If I were Italian, I'd be dead.

I have a hard time finding whole wheat pasta in regular groceries stores here. They all had it for a while but then stopped carrying it. The supply of whole wheat spaghetti I have, I bought when Fry's clearanced it out several weeks ago.

You could try making it without the garlic but I cannot guarantee the same level of tastiness. :-)
