I LOVED the bazookas. Seriously. Thats JOKER. I need a gun. Wasted the ammo, too small. Give me a bigger gun. Wasted the ammo. STILL too small. Gimme a Bazooka! That is Joker to me. Ok, ill give that Bale's Bat-voice is goofy, but thats about the only complaint i have. That film was more than i hoped for, which was an awful lot.

Joker walking out of the hospital dressed as the nurse fumbling with the bomb switch had me in stitches.

When I got home from the theater I almost emailed you specifically to ask what you thought. I can totally see what you mean about the bazooka, but in the context of the high-speed truck chase and all, it just wasn't feeling Batmanny to me. Shrug.

To be fair though, I feel I should say I really did like this film and I want to go see it again. And yeah, you're right: hospital scene, Joker was great. I'd say the Joker character didn't have a single misstep in the entire script, and for that alone it's worth the price of admission.

(Just before seeing this I read a blog entry claiming that The Dark Knight was to superhero movies what The Godfather Part II was to mobster movies, and so the bar went from high to impossible... so I may have been a touch critical. Not that I rescind my comments. But I did like it! And as I consider you the foremost Batman fan/expert I know, it warms my heart that you did, too, and so much more than I.)

it should be noted that both comments were left with a head full of gin...

Yeah, i kinda loved this film. My criticism of it is minimal, such as the writing of Harvey and Rachel being kidnapped off screen. My thoughts of it are still in that flighty, unorganized "holy shit" mode, so I can barely even talk about it.

Yeah, I don't know. I really feel like a lot of the Really BIg Budget Hollywood movies come out and push this "Hey, kids, tanks and machine guns and SWAT teams and missile launchers are cool!" message. It could be that that's "just the way the world is" now, with our desert warfare, militaristic global economy, terrorism hypersensitivity, and information-gluttony... maybe it's my kneejerk because I don't like that depiction of the world and I'm more interested in a romanticized version of masculinity and action (give me Cold War James Bond and Indiana Jones anyday). But it's hard to watch action movies and not think about how any script wanting aid from the US Armed Forces (for extras, locations, props, vehicles, etc.) has to be approved by the US Government or forfeit any right to access. It's hard not to see agendas in something people have invested $180 million in.
