Oh, I missed this before! I agree with Phoenix, the way you write Sam and Gene, I can vividly see and hear them.

And in this one, I adore the idea of Sam comparing Gene to an animal, *out loud*, while Gene is apparently unaware. Or is he? Well played. :)

::hearts this::

ETA: And I love the image of the halo/mane in the light. :) So much so that it came back to me hours later!

You know, I didn't like it at first when Philip Glenister started growing his hair out for the part, but then I got used to it, and it really seems to suit him. Well, it seems to suit Gene, I should say. *g*

And the thing of Sam rambling on, and Gene apparently ignoring him (but not really) is one of my favorite things about the show.

There's a part in one of the episodes where Gene is doing his usual sort of very colorful speech and Sam points out, "This is a very mixed metaphor." (And it's funny, his tone of voice and his expression--he's almost more distressed by the mixed metaphor than by the actual crime!) And Gene is all *eyeroll* *ignore*.

And then later on, Gene's giving an overview of the case in front of the whole department, and he calls out across the room, "Am I mixing my metaphors again?" And Sam doesn't even miss a beat or look up from what he's doing, just replies, "No, that was a simile, you're all right."
