Ultracrepidarianism re: Torchwood, S3

Yeah, this is me documenting my Torchwood fandom journey. Nothing to see here, really; this isn't the deep discussion you're looking for.

Cut for ultracrepidarianism, navel gazing, and Torchwood spoilers. Vague ones, as I haven't even seen it yet, but there you go. )

over-thinky, torchwood

I'm just going to hijack your journal with more pointless rambling, sorry...:P talkingtothesky July 11 2009, 20:03:54 UTC
I know we focus mainly on the depressing side, and let's face it, Ep 5 was mostly the depressing side, but at the beginning of S3 there is lots of humour, and there is hope. (I don't know how spoilered you are, how much you know about specifics, but I will say this.) In the first ep we get Gwen talking with Rupesh and she says that though it's a dangerous and bloody terrifying job at times, it's also magnificent and exciting. In Ep 2 the team manage to rescue Jack and it seems like they might actually be able to get on with saving the world now that they've escaped the government. Even in Ep 5 there is some small measure of humour provided when Andy and Rhys banter with each other. And there's much more there to squee about besides.

For me this series only ran off the rollercoaster track and into the deep dark depths of depressing hell after Ep 3. And I understand why they did that. There's a definite sense in all of RTD's scripts, and this is even more obvious on Who, that he feels the need to make every episode more groundbreaking ( ... )
