Vanity Fair

All right, I have watched "Vanity Fair". "Watched" for a loose interpretation of the term, meaning "fast-forwarded through all scenes which did not contain Philip Glenister", because I got tired of Becky really fast.

Cut for spoilers. Does anybody care about Vanity Fair spoilers? )

Somewhat off topic: my boyfriend is in VF, but they cut his scenes. Fortunately, there's YouTube. [SPOILER} It's funny to see young Reese Witherspoon as his mom, though.

It may be a different version than the one my boyfriend was in. :D I don't remember Reese Witherspoon in the one I watched. She would have been a welcome relief, really.

Ah. IMDB has a few listed. The one you watched was from a 1998 TV mini series. I'm referencing the 2004 movie where Witherspoon played Becky Sharp. Now I kinda want to see both, especially since I haven't watched... anything?... with your boyfriend. (Who, btw, reminds me of Mr. Time a little.)

I wouldn't recommend that one--not as a first-acquaintance with Philip Glenister. He's not in it nearly enough to sit through six hours of costume drama-which-has-forgotten-to-be-dramatic. ETA: However, once you've seen him as Gene, it is worth catching at least a few minutes of him as Dobbin, just because of how drastically different the characters are. (Sorry for all the edits!)

You haven't watched anything with him? I thought you watched a few eps of Life on Mars? If you didn't, please feel free! It's the fourth episode before you really find out anything concrete about Gene, but you can see glimmers of real characterization lurking underneath the Neanderthal long before that.

(Who, btw, reminds me of Mr. Time a little.)

*Does the DANCE OF JOY* I KNOW! Isn't it AWESOME? (I would go into detail here about Philip Glenister's eyelashes vs. Mr. Time's, but I'm sure that's TMI.)

You know, now that I think about it, I can see a bit of RPattz in Mr. Sun, too. I believe I am spotting a pattern here! ghoulchick said that she liked the UK Sam ( ... )

Have you watched Cranford yet? Same basic deal. Lots of boring costume drama, punctuated by a few moments of Glenister in each episode...except I never got past the second episode. *hides*

No, I've been avoiding that one, because I hear PG doesn't end up so well in it. Unhappy endings, we doesn't like them, precious!

I know, I know. Bad fangirl, no biscuit.

Tis a conundrum, indeed.

Your icon, WTF please. I mean, I recognize the hat, but...the eyes underneath it look strangely familiar as well...
