Here, have something NOT related to my kids or Life on Mars! *half of flist promptly passes out*
Disclaimer: I don't watch Psych. I'd like to, I've just never had time. I caught the first ep way back when and immediately thought, "Where is the Shawn/Lassiter, please?" (Although Lassiter failed to really intimidate me, as to me he will always be

I have added to my "fictoread" bookmark, thank you! - I watch Psych whenever I'm at my parents' and really enjoy it. Lassie is a character it would be easy for the show's writers to just use for mockery, but they have actually given him some depth.
ETA - wait, it's NC17? Is that stuff I can read between my fingers and still get the main good parts of the story?

ETA: I get most of my not-my-fandom stuff from crack_van. It's a great resource for random reading, or for checking out a fandom you think you might be interested in but aren't sure what to read.
It does have its drawbacks, though. I'd spent a year and a half only having seen one ep of Life on Mars--fully intending to get around to seeing it all at some future point, one day--and somebody recced a LoM AU set in the first World War, with cameos from Jack Harkness, Tim Latimer (from "Human Nature/Family of Blood"), Edward from "Twilight", and several others I don't remember at the moment. It was written all out of order, and what with that and the WWI setting and me not really knowing the characters or any of the plot, I was all WTF!?
But the story was just that good, that I had to try to figure out more, so I fished around and went reading more fic, and more fic, and then I ( ... )

But I do get embarrassed for Gus, who has to put up with his friend being a total lunatic and dragging him into it as well.
I just haven't seen enough to remember, I guess.
I like "insecure love interest" so much more when it's balanced by things the character IS good at, and secure in--as it is here. Otherwise there's just too much insecurity and you want to wonder why you're bothering with this goob in the first place.

Yes yes YES! One reason I keep being pulled back to toying with the idea of insecure!Gene (much to Drayce and DG's utter horror) is BECAUSE of how awesome and self-assured he is. In my meta about Gene Hunt I posted a long time back, I discussed the troubles with writing insecure!Gene, and those issues haven't gone anywhere, but I still would really love to hit on that in a fic. I just can't figure out how to do it and have a happy-ish ending; which is not a necessity, of course, but is certainly my preference. :)

I find it fascinating that, despite the first impression of Gene being a big loud Neanderthal (TM), he *talks* to Sam about these things. He gives the impression of being the typical macho man who'd die rather than discuss his feelings, but all Sam has to do is ask and he opens right up. /tangent
OK, and why don't Drayce and DG want insecure!Gene?
