--Stories--seeing our life in them, interpreting our life by them. Sparked off by phoenix64--"Character-bashing" is not the same as "Honest character discussion", and why can't I say that I don ( Read more... )

*squints at you* Are you reading my mind? Because I get this feeling that I've been talking about A and B that was eventually going to lead to a sort of C that I may or may have not talked about and you're there ahead of me, aren't you?

I love it! I'm mildly alarmed, but I still love it.

Hee! Lately you and jadesfire2808 have been reading my mind. You've both been posting things that have been swirling around in my head for a while!

I love it! I'm mildly alarmed, but I still love it.

Exactly!

*wants to hear more from you about A, B, AND C*

--Betrayal and the chain of command in Life on Mars
HUGE! Huge issue that we fans tend to gloss over in our Sam/Gene lurv fest. But I think it is crucial to their relationship; Sam is not only challenging Gene's authority; by doing so he's challenging the entire chain of command. If Sam can question/doubt/fight with his superior officer, then why can't anyone else? It surprises me that someone so invested in the "system" as Sam is tends to turn a blind eye to the rocking of the boat he is doing...oh, wait, it doesn't surprise me at all. And post-2.08? (Have you seen that? I will not be spoilery here) After that depending on your opinion of what happened, 'betrayal' is a traumatic issue that the show's writers and nearly all fans gloss over. I'd love to write more about that theme with the characters myself, but it would not be an easy or fun story.

Oh, that does look exciting! I wish I could go. Lack of $$$ prohibits my participation, but it doesn't stop the longing. :(

I've only seen the first season, but I've read enough fic to have a general idea of what happens at the end. Sam's constant challenging of the chain of command has so many layers to it even in S1, but oddly enough, what's fascinating me right now is Gene's betrayals of Sam. I don't know if I have a different perspective on this than most of fandom--I don't actually know what the prevailing opinion is.

I'd love to write more about that theme with the characters myself, but it would not be an easy or fun story.

DOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIT. *encourages* After you finish the Slave-AU, of course! (Were you able to recover that, BTW? *makes note to e-mail all WsIP to self for purposes of backup TODAY*)

I'm not sure what themes, if any, crop up in my writing. I don't think there are any deep ones. Maybe because writing already feels so much like being stripped naked to the world, and getting anything really deep on the page would be so much worseThe embarrassment squick is going to take some thinking; I still can't articulate exactly how it ( ... )
