Summary: Roddy gets lost on his way home and awesome Gil comes to rescue.
At first, it had been only a vague feeling, but after a few more turns, Roderich was absolutely sure. He didn’t recognize any of the buildings around him, let alone the street names. He wasn’t even sure whether this was the same town anymore or not.
The only thing he knew was that he was completely lost again.
He didn’t even know, how this had happened. He had been on his way home, the same way as every day and one of the few he actually found at first try without any help, and then had started to think about the new piece he wanted to compose. Which had led him to stop paying attention to where he was going and made him take one or two wrong turns which had made him take even more wrong turns and in no time, he was completely lost. It was a vicious circle.
Maybe Gilbert was right, he thought with a sigh, maybe he really had the sense of direction of a toast. On the other hand, that was Gilbert talking and he hadn’t get lost without finding some way or another to come home again. Yet. Even if he had sometimes called one of the German brothers or Elizabeta for help.
This time, he was determined to find his way on his own. It couldn’t be that difficult if even Gilbert knew how. He wondered how other people did it. Elizabeta had explained it to him a while ago. Back then, she had told him to look around for landmarks, like high buildings and the landscape around the city to determine the rough direction.
He looked around but didn’t recognize any of the multi-story buildings and had no idea on which side of the steeple he could see to his right he was supposed to be. Nothing looked familiar to him but he was used to this feeling since he tended to get lost at least once a week. The bad thing was, there were no other by-passers and the area didn’t look too prosperous.
After half an hour of aimlessly wandering around, looking for anything that might remind him of the way home, he started to feel uneasy. It had been several minutes since he’d last seen another person. Trying to find a tram or bus station had about the same result as anything else.
After 45 minutes, he started to get really uncomfortable. He had asked for the way now but only received vague directions - or even none at all. The only thing he learned from this was that he was at the other end of town and still heading in the wrong direction. Maybe he should call someone to pick him up by now.
He took this cell out of his pocked and searched though the contact list for anyone to call. He was not sure whom he should call. It was still pretty embarrassing to call Elizabeta each and every time he needed help and let her rescue him. Calling Gilbert was not really a better option. He would probably mock him all the time on their way home. And beyond. As for Ludwig … Roderich knew quite well that he was currently either still at work or on a date with Feliciano so … well, no, it was just wrong to disturb them. That left Antonio but he had always Lovino with him and that was even more awkward and possibly even dangerous for him.
He had a hard time waiting for Gilbert to pick up his phone. In the end, he had decided that calling Gilbert wouldn’t kill him. And besides, he was freezing and it had started to rain.
“Yeah, Awesome here,” Gilbert’s voice answered after a few rings. “Need more awesomeness in your pitiful life, Specs, or why are you calling?”
Roderich sighed. He had expected that. “Gilbert, listen, I’m lost and …” He was interrupted by Gilbert’s laugh. “Again? Seriously, man, that can’t be natural. No one gets lost this often. Are you sure you find your way around your own house?”
“Gilbert, please, I’m cold, it’s raining and I have been on this odyssey for almost an hour. All I want is to get home. I’ll even bear all your cocky remarks but please, come and pick me up, will you?”
“Kesesesese, but I want you to tell me how awesome I am in return,” Gilbert said. “So, tell me now where you are and I’ll come to get you.”
Roderich told him the names of the streets on the next corner and then he had nothing left to do but to wait for Gilbert. He was pretty relieved when he saw the familiar blue car turning into the street and stopping in front of him.
“Need a ride?” Gilbert grinned as he opened the door to the passenger seat.
Relieved, Roderich got inside the car. After an hour of aimlessly wandering around, being in a car with Gilbert was close enough to a happy place for him. He didn’t even mind Gilbert mocking him and then claiming that he was the greatest person ever lived in the same breath.
“Uhm, Specs, what I wanted to ask you,” Gilbert started when he was waiting at a traffic light. “You know that you cell can give you directions? That was the reason why Eli and I got it for you. Or do you like being rescued by the awesome Me just this much?”
