So...you start with a bunch of hydrogen and other light elements. Some of it comes together and becomes a sun. After awhile it collapses or gains enough energy to be at a critical density. The star explodes in a supernova and releases heavier elements

Also this makes me wonder about how galexies fit into this intereaction between stellar explosions that release heavy metals and "big bang" explosion that release light atoms.
