if memory serves i noticed an effect about a month after but started to feel more confident/comfortable after about 2/3 weeks.
As for side effects, Id say it was the mildest Ive been on and cant think of anything that really stuck out apart from being a bit tired for the first month or so while my body adjusted. Depending what dosage you get, I would say it had the least effect for me i noticed a difference but probably because i was looking for one, I had much better results of peroxatine .

for me it took about a month to really take effect, and when it did it just zombiefied me a bit - not extremely or anything, it just seemed to dull everything. so my lows werent as low, but i didnt have any 'ups' either.

my friend just got even worse on it, he didnt have a good time on it at all.

i read a study on it that said in *some* cases where people had been on it long term, when they came off it they experienced a withdrawal much like a comedown that lasted up to 12 weeks and experienced symptoms even worse than the depression they had been prescribed it for in the first place. apparently there is alot of concern that not enough research has been done into this yet.

personally i wasnt on it long enough to find out, i switched to something else after only 5 months, then stopped taking them completely.

I was on it for around 3 months. I reacted very well to in as far as it helping symptoms - a decade's worth of depression gone, and my anxiety was significantly reduced (although nowhere near as much as the depression ( ... )

I know this is late but only just read this post...

I was on citalopram for about 2 years in total and I found it was the mildest and easiest anti-depressant I'd ever had.

It took a few weeks to take effect, and if I missed one, I'd feel like shite for a few days but otherwise no side effects I can think of.

However, I know two other people who are/have been on it, and, the higher the dosage gets, the stronger the 'numbing' sensation seems to be, so you might feel like a bit of a zombie if they keep upping your prescription, no ups, no downs, just nothingness. Also, if you're on it for too long, coming off seems a bit like going cold turkey!

When I came off them, I had a few months of crying ALL THE TIME but afterwards I was fine and dandy :-)

Good luck hun
