poor form

OK so It has been exceptionally bad form not getting into LJ ask often as I'd like, I feel like a poor community member not having had more of a role in my friends journals, who are so diligent in commenting on mine. Ahh commitments, commitments ( Read more... )

Its not bad form at all to just be here occasionally, unlike us social retards who cant seem to keep the fuck away from the gaddamn keyboard!

I need to get out more I think.

It sounds like your doing a fine job of organising yourself outside your comfort zone - I just wish we could get over there soon to witness it.

The best we can do is go a little bit closer next week - Byron/Ballina/Pumpinbil.

We'll wave and hope you can see better.

end of line

Mr,
now worries mate, I'll be back down your way in a jiffy and must (when I get to organising that level of detail) book a night to come and visit and have a drinkie and do some music stuff or maybe watch a flick with ya.

There is no escape - I know where you live.

You and The 'Gov are on my agenda.

To certain extent, this is what happened to me when i moved from Sydney to Melbourne, although i imagine that it would be much more terrifying and exhilarating changing countries rather than cities. The temptation is to just cling to what little you do know about your new locale, but at the same time there is so much that is new to experience. But whenever the new gets to be just a little bit too much, the old is just a phone call (or a LiveJournal entry) away.

I have a friend travelling to your part of the world soon. Do you mind if I give her your email address? She is hoping to do the whole SE Asia thing, followed by bits of China and Mongolia. You can consider it a kind of visit of mine, by proxy!!!

And I would consider bad form on your part if you were on LJ more often, instead of getting out into that 'threatening open space'.

Please do...I am most welcoming of even a proxy presence of one of my Newtown Crew and as a friend of yours she comes highly recommended.

I promise to explore that space more and to keep you informed on the outcome.

'I think we all have a degree of "identity agoraphobia", the self identity provided by long standing social circles, interests and career provides what can alternately be seen as a nice cozy space or a guilded cage.'

Beautifully put ... I am quite openly a sufferer! Although things are slowly changing, I still love my 'cozy space' ... it's only a cage if I want it to be.

It's something I've been struggling to express for ages and very glad I finally came upon that analogy. If there's one (and the only) thing a biblical christian upbringing gave me it's the recognition of the usefulness of analogs and parables in explaining abstract ideas. It's also a warning that they can sometimes be used to give a veneer of credence to otherwise irrational concepts.
