YAY! I like the way you decided to end it. It's more concise, but it still conveys the emotion and pain that both Jared and Tracy are feeling.

One little thing, though, and it might've just been confusing to me. If Mike is Tracy's brother-in-law, the logical conclusion in my head is for Mike to be Jared's brother... wait. Does Jared have a brother? OK. Yes; Jeff. SO! Back to my earlier confusion. It just seems to make more sense in this context for Mike to be Jared's brother because I don't remember you introducing a sister of Tracy's. I know, semantics, but it's just how my brain works and it was bugging me.
