Brilliant story. I think your characterization is great and the atmosphere you created is haunting and powerful. I particularly loved the little L/Light bit and the funeral scene.

I'm afraid it's even more true. Light's death, but even more so his revelation as Kira, broke Matsuda. You found a great way to show it.

Oh thank you so much <3. I was already thinking that piece hadn't gripped anyone (seeing how no one really responded to it so far XDD). I really, really toiled at creating a certain atmosphere here, hence the odd writing and all. And characterisation ... I was worried about that, since I'd never written Matsuda before (and I do view as more than the simple butt monkey in DN).

Hmm, it did. Because I think Matsuda was so emotionally attached to Light (and the Yagami household - especially Soichiro Yagami); Ide himself comments that he liked Light. And yes, while I made this more romantic (this should have been gen XDD), I do think that Matsuda suffered greatly.

Yes, finally some more Light/Matsuda. Thank you so much for wrting this because God know how much I love this pairing, and your wrting makes it even more lovely.

“Matsuda wanted to say ‘You betrayed me, you made me fall in love with you, but never loved me.’” I think this line is so true because Light could never love anyone because in my opinion he was a psychopath, and it makes me mad when everyone says, "Well Light would only use Matsuda because he is a less intellectual being, and he can only love L, that's why I don't think Light/Matsuda will work." Which in my opinion is wrong because Light didn't care about L, Light in the end didn't care about anyone because he only care about himself and to become "God" of his new world.

Oh, I really like your protayal of Matsuda because you don't present him as the idiot that many think he is, or maybe I'm just biased because I like Matsuda the most from Death Note.

Thank you - it means a lot to me, seeing how this fic is different in vein from what I usually write (or not? I don't really know XD).

I don't think Light would be beyond using anyone - and he does *use* people in order to achieve his goals in DN. In the second part, he basically has other people do the dirty work for him XD. And I don't Light - corrupted by power as he was - cared for anyone. He *might* have cared for his family, but still considered the new world more important. And, considering how much his family suffered, I'm not really sure Light loved them all that much. If at all.

And there's no pairing that *can't* work - a good writer can, by exploring, make anything plausible. And if not, there's always crack fic :D!

I don't think Matsuda is that stupid; he's blinded by a lot of things and he gets treated as the clown of the group by L, but he's not that useless or dumb. He was the one who *actually* helped with the Higuchi case.

And I like Matsuda a lot too - he's very likeable!

Yeah, what I meant was that Light used people in order to reach his goal, and in the second part he did a tremendous job at it, which in my opinion makes him fit the criteria of a psychopath very well.

I also agree that there isn't a pairing that *can't* work, maybe it's because I usually don't like the main pairings but that's just me. I don't know I usually don't like crack fics because they tend to send a bad message towards the pairing; a good example is Light/Matsuda because many people say that they're a crack pairing, but if you pair them up their relationship is full of angst and I don't see any *crack* in that.

Of course Matsuda is not an idiot, I really like his character because he seems like the most down-to-earth character in DN.
