Testosterone and periods

Just wondering... for those of you on the FTM spectrum, how long did it take for your period to disappear after starting T?

Definitely have labs done. Generally it takes about 1-3 months for it to go away; if it takes more than six months, something likely needs adjusting. What's your dose? Have you been having other changes?

I bled about a week after starting T, which was right on schedule, and the following month I bled but it was really irregular (for me); the month after that, there was nothing, and nothing ever after except spotting a handful of times later on (after about a year and after about two years), which is pretty common.

Disclaimer as always: I am not a medical professional.

I'm taking 125mg every three weeks. My voice started dropping about 2 months in and is fairly noticeably deeper. I've noticed an increase of body and facial hair, and have noticed my athletic performance improving quite a bit too. Acne started kicking in about the same time my periods started up again.

I seem to be getting all the regular changes, it's just the period is really slow to disappear. My doctor is at least fairly certain that the periods are not a result of dropping testosterone levels or anything like that since it is very much a regularized menstrual cycle and time-wise doesn't have any relation to when I get my shots.

I was planning on asking my doctor for bloodwork soon anyway, so I will do just that. Thanks for the feedback.

Even though you're bleeding regularly so this might not be the cause, a triweekly dose is quite unusual and means more of a hormonal cycle rather than steadier levels. Switching to biweekly or weekly shots might help even though your doctor doesn't think that's the issue. Given how infrequent your shots are, be very conscious of where in your shot cycle you are when they take blood.

^ tbh, I was on bi-weekly shots. Kept getting spotting which fucked with my head BIG time. I halved my dose, doing it once a week (with doc's okay), and never had another.

I actually JUST stopped having my period at 7 months on T! The prior six months I had very regular periods with lighter flow than pre-T, but which would last 7 days instead of 5. My doctor wasn't really super worried because like you, my T levels and estrogen levels were normal. I don't know what your T dosage is, but I was on 200mg every 2 weeks for the first 3 months and then bumped down to 150mg every 2 weeks, neither of which are low dosages (the first was way too high and my T levels went through the roof!).

I was also pretty worried that it was taking so long to stop, but it finally did. My doctor was also starting to get a little perturbed, as you put it, and it probably couldn't hurt to have things checked up on, but you're not the only one!

Good to know that others have had to wait months for their periods to stop too! Maybe this month will be my last.

I'm only taking 125mg every three weeks (which is standard among my doctor's patients), but my T levels were normal with just that when I last had my bloodwork done.

If there's any question, get bloodwork done. Your doctor can't tell what your T levels are by looking at you, acne or no.

I had a period two weeks in and have not a single drop since (am 4 months now).

Have you had any blood tests since you started T? I had blood tests before I started and again now at the 18 week mark. (sidenote: oh wow, 18 weeks, that's gone really quickly)
