Quick question about deed polls

So I'm doing a DIY deed poll to change my birthname. Under UK law you can just print the form out with the right names in the right places and send it out to whoever it concerns. I was wondering if anyone knew the deal with changing title? I know that a deed poll doesnt count as a change of gender, but all the sites that will charge you for these ( Read more... )

The basic titles are through custom and usage. Anything beyond Miss/Ms/Mrs/Mx/Mr/Master is only through achieving or being awarded specific honours.

Some people put titles into the deed poll or statutory declaration but it isn't necessary.

So if you want to be Miss/Ms/Mrs/Mx it is entirely up to you and you just tell an organisation. Most will have trouble with Mx as it is so uncommon and in general title lists don't include it.

I'm Miss, Ms, and sometimes Mrs with various organisations. I always tell them Miss, but they seem to assume otherwise based on my age.

Don't forget to get your deed poll properly witnessed by an upstanding member of society.

Just make sure it's on the deed poll you do. Titles don't have any legal meaning so really you can change it just by asking the organisation to change your records. But sticking it on the deed poll decreases the odds of anyone being annoying about it.

Those deed poll sites verge on being a con

Yep that's what I'm doing. It's just a straight Mr to Ms change, so I'm just going to include it with my names in full. I feel like this will help people understand why they are recieving it without the need for a cover letter or doctor's note. Thanks everyone for your help.

Also - I have a to whom it may concern letter from my psych which I send off with my deedpoll if I think there's likely to be any problem getting my records changed correctly. I didn't when I asked for the records on my car to be updated, but I did write out a cover letter.
