Thing is, they've clearly not *read* DSM-IV, much less the proposed DSM-V text. Because both state that it's only a "disorder" if it significantly disturbs the person or if it interferes with their life.
To people who understand that fact, sure. But same as when homosexuality was in the DSM, if it shows up in that book, people go "oh look, that means you're deranged" regardless of the actual points of diagnosis.
Just like the accepted treatment for homosexuality that bothers the client: you work with them to learn to accept themselves as normal and that society is fucked up, not them.
