If he acknowledged that there are trans men, he'd have to acknowledge that he's campaigning to have men use the women's restrooms.

A part of me fantasizes about something like putting up a picture of a really masculine trans man (like Jameson Green) and saying "Focus on the Family wants women to share a restroom with this man".

But I feel like that'd be extremely problematic in a lot of ways.

I'm kind of worried that the trans and "LGBT" communities are going to give this guy more publicity than he'd ever get otherwise.

*sighs* When I was at the Massachusetts State House to testify in a hearing on the transgender rights bill (which has twice since stalled to death in committee, despite having the support of the Governor, the Speaker of the House, the Bar Association, the Chamber of Commerce, various doctor's organizations, etc., etc.), I heard all these tremendously sad and disturbing accounts of housing & job discrimination, violence against trans folk, rejection and hardship, and so on, and then the right wingers get up there... and all they care about it stupid bathrooms. It's so... infuriating and insulting to have all of our other needs and concerns shunted aside so a few narrow-minded folks can spill out this entirely fabricated, imaginary risk of sex offenders somehow using this bill to more easily prey on women.

Depressing to be sure. I'm ashamed to say, being a Boston native, I wish MA was leading the pack a bit better on the issue. It's angering to know that despite the best efforts of some of our public legislators, we still can't have equality under the law.

What's the status of it as of now?

It died in committee in December. I don't know if there's any way to revive it this session.
