If you changed your name on your social security card and your drivers license says female they should have changed it on your social. They did mine when I changed my name and gender marker in CA (not court ordered). I just went in to SS and filled out the name change stuff so I could get a new card and I asked them to change it on my social so I wouldn't have problems with employment.

The SSA official actually wasn't supposed to have made that change (legally speaking). As of around 2004/2005 or so a SS name change requires a court order (prior to that you could get away with supporting docs like a D/L). Gender change has always required court order.

I did my name change (via supporting docs) about 12 years ago, so they just accepted that part, but then about two years ago I needed a replacement SS ID card and was told, "We can't discuss this record with anyone who doesn't have valid state ID showing the original name or a court order showing a legal name change".

'cause... God forbid I want to work and pay taxes or anything...

That was my concern. Lying on passport applications and such tends to be frowned upon legally, particularly in the current...global security climate.

I've tried it, about twelve years ago, and failed utterly, in four different government offices.

And that was in loosey-goosey Canada, and well before 9/11. I think trying it now would be a Very Bad Idea, for the reason Jessie mentions.

i thought gender changes on ss cards, passports, or birth certificates usually required some court stuff, and in some states a surgeon's letter certifying you had the surgery done. either way lying to anyone concerning the passport thing is a bad bad idea.

i remember hearing or reading once if you had some kind of thing stating you plan to get surgery with in a year they will give you a temp one or somethin stating you are the gender you claim to be. how true this was, or if it was me being mis-informed idk. i would do serious research on this before you follow through on it...being marked for the "do not fly list" or permanantly marked as an additional screening required everytime is not a fun idea. the TSA is a huge pain in the ass w/o anybody to answer to an can ruin your life by one form.
