hear hear! The fact that the process requires any emotional support at all means it needs to be made easier.
It's one of those things that is whispered about, gossiped about and it's possibly used as a bogeyman story to frighten fans. Actually I'm fairly sure that isn't the case
No, I think you are actually right about that.
You are also right about being expected to hold a degree in fannish tradition and history + mind reading - I think this is the same thing that makes it much more difficult to run a swancon or a natcon that to run an independent con - it is the reason so many con committees suffer fannish burn out.
Actually, you are right about everything.
It doesn't have to be that hard, and nothing to say that the process itself has to be more complicated and painful than the Tin Duck process. This point interests me alot, I would love to hear what it is about the tin duck process that you feel makes it an easier process, from the outside they look very much the same, so I think this may give some clues toward how to best
( ... )
I am profoundly grateful that it is better than what it was - and I don't think there has been any failure, but similarly I don't think that we can stop here... it needs to be looked after regularly or things like this will happen
( ... )
and now, I think you understand why I kept trying to fob you off, to give it to someone else...Not because I didn't think you could do it, but because I didn't want to put you through what I knew was going to be an awful process.
And yet who else would be in a position to do it? I'm not sorry to have done it, I've found it very rewarding, but I also don't want to leave it as it is for someone else to have to wade through. I want to leave it better so that the list of people who are willing and able to take it on is longer.

I'm not dealing well with my stress, I think I'm going to the dark side! But maybe I'll get a retro-futuristic black life support suit out of it!
*hugs!*
