goes on forever ...:P

display - talk about OHS, they may understand :)
(that is amazing .. its usually the one thing you can play with ... except at Centrelink, where it is all sytematised .. but even they allowed you to organise your desktop within a set layout and provided a range of colour schemes)

With it turned down low enough, it's not a problem any longer, but it makes me twitchy not to be able to customise it all

We've recently had ours locked down further - we used to be able to set the wall paper and play with a few settings, now it forces everything back to default when you log off. What's particularly annoying is the contact info that forms the default wallpaper used to just layer itself on top of any wallpaper the user set. Now it fails.
*grumbles*

I understand your pain. I have a greeny-blue background that is the default - it hurts us!

Congrats on loving the new job, and welcome to the "Dark Side" of working for the Health Department...

I promise if I ever get you on the phone, I won't abuse you in my mad rants at HCN.... ;)

The way the system is currently setup, its a wonder anyone can be competent. The amount of mad workarounds in order to pay someone HDA, move them from one place to another - especially if said different place runs on a different system... it's insane! The project is going to be painful, and hard, and frustrating... trying to centralise all of this is going to be such a huge change, and not everyone wants it to happen so... it will be an uphill battle... but I'll be thinking of you if you're having mad ranty problems!

I'm so glad you're excited about the new job and have interesting colleagues to boot. One of the reasons I know about the project is that my sister is a payroll specialist of 20+ years who recently escaped the public service (pushed in part by the horror of this very project). I also knew one of the senior IT people on the oracle side. Please post war stories - I'm very interested in progress.

I hear ya on the colour thing - were you filling in for J at Education when I had my colours completely inverted, which drove everyone else insane? *giggling*

Congrats on the new job.
