We're not going to desecrate the dead. The medical staff can perform the standard autopsies on them and then we'll give them a proper funeral. I'd like to consult with Mr. Kennedy before we open hydroponics or the space-walk however, just in case there's another threat lurking within.
I assure you, Captain, there are no creatures in the spacewalk itself. I have had to enter it in order to repair it. Hydroponics, however, is on the other side, and has its own control panel.
I would fully support the opening of Hydroponics, given proper safety precautions are involved to make sure we're not going to be letting in anything creepy and crawly.
However... I am not exactly comfortable with handing over dead crew members for "study" beyond seeing what killed them.
The intelligent thing to do with the bodies would be to let both medical and Roxie have their stab at them. They're dead. Whatever we can learn about who and what they were and what killed them will get us that much closer to our goal. Regardless, that's not my jurisdiction.
We need to send in a unit to clear Hydroponics, either by killing anything potentially dangerous or getting it contained. Quarantine down in the biology department should suffice, they've got some decent cages, assuming we don't end up simply shooting whatever they are. They'll need to be wearing extravehicular suits with tethers regardless. I don't trust anything to hold up under pressure, not that's been exposed to those conditions for the last six months or more, regardless of your engineering.
Honestly, I don't see the point of relying on these 'souls' the way people do. I think that a comprehensive scan of two or three bodies, and then disposal of the rest is the safest gesture.
Take any security precautions you feel are needed. I'm confident that my repairs will hold, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
If I might make a suggestion? Bring energy weapons with stun capabilities or something that will instantly cauterize. That or tranquilizers. I don't want to risk the creatures having some kind of toxin or acid in their bodies. Filling the largest source of plant life on the ship with poison would be... foolish.
I can help with the plants, once we get in there. It's kind of my brother and I's specialty. We can go through and see what's the most useful to us medicinally, nutritionally, and practically speaking.

I do not mean to disrespect the dead.

A man's soul is something that you don't meddle with. Especially not after what we just went through.

...You'll have to forgive my asking, but how does your soul factor into something like this?

There are some lines I'm not going to cross for both professional and personal reasons and that is one of them.
