She hadn't been able to get to the pods, either. The casualties were reminder of how vulnerable the sleepers were. And the crew - the people should have been protecting them - had failed them.
It was a bitter pill to swallow, but they couldn't afford to dwell on it when they needed to prepare for the next attack. They had to get back to normal. Back to the war.
"What can I do to help?"

"Hey Elisa. Just trying to fix some of the supports in here. Welcome to grab some spackle for the walls over there." He gestured to some holes in the office walls section. Some of the desks were beyond repair, but the building was still structurally sound.

She surveyed the damaged building, reminded despite herself of the time that her precinct back in New York had been destroyed by the hunters.
