Lirath - Ship Survival

Aug 13, 2011 01:42

As the battle raged outside, those remaining aboard Stacy had their hands full preparing for the incoming flood of refugees.

Positioned near the Bleed-Gate orbiting Lirath, Stacy stood ready to receive the refugees. Ship after ship ascended as quickly as they could, some of them making a break for the Bleed-Gate itself while the smaller ships were ( Read more... )

Severely injured refugees and crewmembers were being transported up to the ship and taken to the Medbay, after triage. These people needed to be stabilized, stat.

Fortunately, the Emergency Medical Hologram had split himself into duplicates to help out.

She had done her best, fighting on the ground, but she knew full well that she would be needed elsewhere as well: there were refugees suffering and dying all over the place, and this time it wasn't the relatively minimal amount of blood loss from Zozek II: people were in pain all over the place.

And Kaya herself wasn't in tip top shape, not with all those narrow misses and cuts and scrapes she'd obtained, and her nerves were frayed. She was grateful that the others had been fighting and lent a hand, because right now she could at least take care of the people here. She barked out orders to the others at hand and did what she could, trying to move from one person to the other, using her chalice whenever necessary, although some did not take to her transforming into her white Pactio form as well as she hoped. For her, it was all the same: people dying, people injured, and her just hoping no Ohm had the chance of coming in and disrupting things.

The first person she comes to looks like he's probably a young soldier. He's burned in several places, and he's trying to curl protectively around a leg that simply isn't there anymore.

Kaya started on him immediately. She closed her eyes, bringing her water out, and starting on some of the burns, remembering all too well the story of how Katara discovered she was a water healer.

"Sandy, some bandages, please!" She called out, then looked down at the soldier. "How did this happen?" She asked, trying to sound comforting.

They're givin' it all she's got, captain! Despite the best efforts of the fighters outside, damage was being done to the ship, and it was creating strain on Stacy herself. While the organic parts were healing naturally, the mechanical parts of the ship, particularly the engines, were going to need constant repair during the fighting.

Could the engineering crew tasked with such a momentous undertaking keep up?

The last time they'd fought the Ohm Cassie had been on the front lines. And aside from the failure to reach the Node, she hadn't done half bad. Now she was stuck on the ship and away from the action.

"Not fair." She muttered before catching herself. Really, this was more than fair. By all intents she should have died when that bomb exploded. And if she'd been at home she would have been stuck with disfiguring scars for the rest of her life.

But then Engineering started taking damage and her attention shifted.

She'd learned a lot about Engineering but hadn't had much of a chance to get hands on experience with it. Looked like she was going to have a baptism by fire.

She quickly went to work examining what needed fixing, mindful of any orders issued.

What didn't need fixing? A quick look at the display screens revealed a host of errors, problems, warnings, and alerts along with graphic references and options for further information -- though a leisurely read might be out of the question!

There were advantages to being a Yeerk. Schmuz just didn't have the same emotions as humans and didn't process the same way as humans, either.

Which was useful, because he had a feeling that if he'd been human, panic would have been setting in right about now.

He looked at the list of errors that came up, frowning. "I think it would be wise to shut down unnecessary systems at the moment." He moved to one of the terminals. "It would drop the power draw to more acceptable levels."

Hidden among the refugees, some of the cultists that were wreaking havoc down on the planet were hiding, though their numbers were, fortunately few.

Could they be taken out before they hurt anyone?

"Let's move in an orderly fashion!" called out Philip, waving at the refugees, a small earring given to him by Rein in his ear. "Hoshi, Ren, Shoutarou, how's it handling on your end?"

"Going well here!" Hoshi said, motioning people to keep up the orderly fashion here. She had Seraphiel help guide the refugees as well.

"How about you, Philip?"

Hull breach! A group of Ohm had gotten through and were sabotaging ships in the Hangar. The hole in the hull was sealed up quickly but the air lock release was busted, so they couldn't just be swept out. Stacy was trying her best to destroy them with tentacles, but it was clearly not enough.

Some of the crew were going to have to take matters into their own hands, and fortunately, mecha, forklifts, and other equipment around the hangar would help make their job easier.

As some of the Ohm came closer, they could hear someone singing. Singing an odd jingle.

This is the song written for the fight scene,
We're gonna squash all of the Ohhhhhhhm...!

A few seconds later, a number of Grunts would get squished by... a thrown forklift.

"We killed the Ohm with a forklift~!" Spider-Man finished up, pumping his fist as it struck. "Huzzah!"

"That doesn't even rhyme," said Midna, floating upwards and motioning with her hands. In the air, an object was beginning to take shape -- a large section of what appeared to be a bridge, materialized out of swirling black particles.

Abruptly, it dropped, crushing a group of Ohm under heavy grey stone.

"Not everything has to rhyme, y'know!" Spidey quipped, before leaping from his perch, a Grenader attack striking where he was.

"Alright, let's see how you do when you can't fight back, bug breath!" Firing twin weblines, he covered the Grenader's barrel completely, either giving him enough time to strike it down, or watching it blow up in a pile of acid.

What's that? Stacy's in trouble? Applejack is on the case! She set off for the room at a gallop, eager to do something, anything to lend a hoof. No one would let her join the main battle outside, it was too dangerous for a pony without protection or a weapon. She wasn't a diplomat, not in the slightest, and she didn't know the first thing about fixin' everypony up. So what could she do?

Whatever was just announced!

She stopped in the appointed room with the strange machines at a skid, looking around with wide eyes.

"Hey, does anypony know what's goin' on? I sure don't see any cores being tossed around."

Hikari's eyes widened as she heard the message over the comms. She knew enough about what was being said to know that her and Tailmon were going to be some of the best suited people for this.

Which is why she and Tailmon were running there pretty fast. "The Ohm are trying to break into the programming of the ship. Stacy's core is well... her brain," Hikari said, answering Applejack's question as soon as they made it there.

Tailmon stretched. "It's been a while since we've been in a data network, hasn't it?"

Hikari nodded. "Yeah, it has."

Taichi on the other hand was all business, even if he wore a grim smile on his face. He had been waiting for this moment and he gestured to Agumon who was polishing off a plate of slop. "C'mon Agumon, we've got hunting to do."

Rushing towards the room, he threw a hand up. "Headcount! Who've we got?"
