In which Stephen makes a lot of noise... [Bendytimed for my fail!]

Jun 01, 2011 21:21

He'd been spending a lot of time in the lab. Maybe too much, but the end results really would be worth it all. He still had to figure out a way to make a certain delivery to a certain pilot, but Stephen had decided that it was past time for him to work on something he wanted to work on.

So at one end of his garage-turned-workshop, there are two Read more... )

There are a few things that continue to surprise Zouichi about this crew. One of them is, apparently, seeing a man in a chain mail suit play the theme to Mortal Kombat with a lightning guitar. He brakes his bike, removing his helmet to watch Stephen play.

Okay, that's just cool.

Stephen didn't really stop when he saw the bike pull up, but he walked a bit closer to the door. Despite the fact that the lightning was no longer jumping to his Faraday suit, the music kept playing.

He sent the unfamiliar fellow a wave.

Zouichi waved back, watching the performance. The sound carried surprisingly well.

...he kind of wanted a lightning guitar. Too bad he couldn't play.

Stephen isn't much into reading minds, but...

"Hey, you want to give this a try?" Well, if he wanted to try messing with the guitar, Zouichi could at least make some noise, too.

It might be entertaining?

Holy crap. Holy crap!

Lash had never seen such an ingenious use of Tesla coils since that time she had build them around a giant raygun to make it seem extra awesome and dangerous.

"Neat. I guess." Her body language seemed to imply otherwise.

"Hey!" Stephen's voice was slightly muffled from beneath the helmet, but Lash, at least, was vaguely familiar to him.

"I don't have another Faraday suit but you could always try this one once I'm out of it, if you want to give this a try?"

Yeah, the mad-scientist types always could tell one another...

Music to Lash's ears, both figuratively and physically.

"YES! I mean uh...yeah. Sure." She couldn't let another mad scientist thing she was that interested in their fancy stuff. "It could be cool. Or something." The only question was if Lash could fit in that suit and not look silly in it.

That's what surreptitious use of Matter magick is for. Stephen just won't admit to it! Once he's decided that, he powers down the coils (for now) and starts doffing the suit.

"Come on then." Beckoning Lash closer, and offering the gear over piece by piece. "Do you want to try the guitar too, or just play with the Tesla coils?"

Nehaalista had seen many interesting (mostly gnomish) displays of electricity and a body in her time. Perhaps not as interesting as when a shaman decided to electrocute everyone in a ten-yard radius of them (forgetting that poor Nehaalista wore platemail and thus got a good round of zapping too, stupid shaman), but still very interesting never the less.

She watched him play for a bit (though it was terribly loud and she didn't understand exactly what made it musical) and then clapped. [You're not electrified in there, are you?] she signed, and smiled.

No sir, no awkward city here, sir.

[No, but it's also not difficult to take off if you don't want to take the chance,] Stephen replied, already hauling off the helmet.

[Haven't seen you around in a while. Have you been busy with running the ship, Councilor?] Though he couldn't help smiling, because he was happy to see her, all awkwardness shoved rapidly aside.

[A bit, though I imagine it's good training for Exarch-hood when the time comes.] If it ever came, and Nehaalista was beginning to doubt the return of their homes. [I've mostly been listening to them a lot and offering advice here and there as needed.] She smiled a little more sheepishly.

[What was that, by the way? It's very loud.]

"It's a MIDI guitar. I was playing some music from my world on it." And sign language didn't exactly have terms for all that, unless you liked finger spelling, and that took forever. "Most of the time Tesla coils don't make noise, but these were modified. Mostly because it's fun, at least to me. It keeps me out of trouble, right?"

Stephen shrugged. "Been keeping your hand in your jewelry making at all?" Because clearly he has been keeping up with his own projects, such as they were.
