Cranston For Hire [Open!]

Feb 26, 2011 15:48

It was once again time for Billy to assess the progress being made in this seemingly endless war with tasks and deadlines. So far, reorganization of the Engineering department was about 25% complete. Not terrible for a day's work, but he could certainly do better. Several projects were stalled pending discussion from the involved parties. His ( Read more... )

Ronnae had taken a liking to the park, specially since things at Engineering had been in somewhat of a disarray and she'd been asked to hold on some of her projects while things settled down. She'd find a spot in the part and either relax with some pilfered books from one of the many buildings in the city, or play her flute. Today she carried her precious metallic blue case as was happily looking for a spot to settle down ( ... )

That hair brushing the sleeping Billy's face was almost enough to wake him on its own. His nose twitched when it was tickled, almost like a rabbit's.

What did cause him to fully stir was the kiss. His eyes opened, taking a moment to adjust to the green and red filling his vision. After taking a second to confirm that it was Ronnie, he gave her a quick and playful kiss while squeezing her hand.

It would take another second for the reality of the compromising situation to set in.

She moved back with a noticeable blush and settled in a comfortable sitting position next to him. She smiled shyly and looked away a bit embarrassed remembering where they were, but she was plenty sure they were alone right? "Long d-day? Has to be for you to be falling asleep." She tilted her head and laughed lightly. "Looks like you're still moving stuff then?"

"Yep," Billy confirmed, stretching his limbs and moving to sit. As he did so, he looked around for any onlookers and checked the time (well, relative time). "I thought I was just going to rest my eyes. It looks like it's been at least 40 minutes," he observed, a rising level of distress in his voice.

"I guess I'm not cut out for this type of multitasking," Billy chided himself, shifting to reorganize the items. "But I was just about done, so it's not as bad as it could be."

Ron, in a fit of boredom, had decided to take a walk in the City Park. While his mind was considering finding a nice spot to practice katas, he nearly tripped over the sleeping Billy. Considering whether or not to wake him up, he came to a decision he was probably going to regret. Wandering off again, he came back with a pail of water, the contents of which he proceeded to dump on Billy's head.

Well, that was a rude awakening.

Billy sputtered and jerked, turning on his hands and knees to hack the water out and make an attempt at drying his glasses on his shirt. When they were clear, he looked up.

"Good afternoon, Ron," Billy greeted none-too-happily. "What brings this on?"

"Honestly? I had to do something to wake you up, and I thought it'd be funny."

"Oh, it's definitely amusing. From an outsider's perspective." Billy grouched, rummaging through his backpack for a certain item. Aha, there it was! A towel.

"Do you know how long I've been unconscious?" Billy asked, roughing up his hair into a disorganized mess with the towel.

Anwei kept meaning to introduce herself to Billy Cranston - after all she has been working in his department (at least one corner of it) for some time now, but she never seemed to get around to it.

But here she was, in one of the corridors, and she couldn't help but notice that Mr. Cranston was walking in the opposite direction while balancing far too many things in his hands, plus reading from his omnicomm and coming perilously close to walking into people.

"Anything I can help with, sir?" she offered.

Billy jumped at the sound of the voice, dropping one or two of his datapads. "It's all right, I'll take this more slowly," he said in a rush, scrambling to pick up the bits and pieces and place them in a pile. "And you can call me Billy, everyone does. You're Anwei, right?" he finally remembered from the comm conversations he'd witnessed.

Anwei crouched as well, her knees folding to the side in a twisted pose that she somehow made look comfortable. "Or at least take time to put more things in pockets," she suggested, quickly ferreting out some small bits of screen that were stuck in Stacy's grooved - skin, she supposed.

"Anwei, yes. I wanted to tell you how impressed I was with your inventory database, Billy. I do - did - data management for a living, and it's really a pleasure to work with a program that's so intuitive to use."

Billy groaned---they'd been high enough to shatter? He picked that one up and transferred the data to another pad with a few presses, moving to help her clean up his mess.

"Right." And his pockets were quickly stuffed and zipped. When she told him about the database, he couldn't help but smile. "Thanks, you're very kind, but it wasn't my work alone. I've been working with the programmers here and you're all doing excellent work."

He truly meant that. "So you haven't had too much trouble settling in?"

Andy grinned as he walked by Billy. "Hey, how've you been?" he said, waving over to the other man. Andy had been busy spending his time training as usual, so he hadn't gotten to see Billy much lately.

"Andy," Billy couldn't help but smile. Blue Rangers, they had an interesting sort of bond. Caught off guard by the rare opportunity to talk to him, he set his things down.

"I just returned from another mission, but this one didn't involve any combat on my side," he said with satisfaction. "What have you been up to?"

Andy smiled. "Training mostly. Not that much to do, really," he said. "How'd that mission go? I heard that it... well, involved marriage somehow?"

That was right. Billy nodded, sorting out the things he needed to do in his head.

"I'd like to train with you all again sometime. I'm sure you're making great progress, but working on team strategies would be good for us too."

He blushed then, remembering it all in vivid detail. "Affirmative. In order to gain access to an artifact that Stacy required us to retrieve, we had to either prove that we were holy people or marry. I had no option but to marry."

At some point, Billy was joined by the Doctor, who was also jogging. He thought he'd seen a flash of an otter tail but so far he hadn't any luck with it. Maybe the animal hadn't made it this far, which was...probably a good thing. After all, it didn't seem to care much for Marco's face, so he didn't want it to go seeking out the human for Round 2. The Doctor caught up to Billy, jogging easily and not the least out of breath: call it a mixture of good endurance and doing this sort of thing more than was probably healthy.

"Good morning! Or afternoon; something like that, you know what I mean. Busy day?" The Doctor glanced over at his backpack. "Need help?"

How did the Doctor have so much energy? Billy stared in amazement, filing away another mystery that would likely never be solved. Not that Billy couldn't run like that: he could, at some other time, not weighed down by the various wooden fixtures and repair items he was delivering.

"The busiest of the week so far. I've been making deliveries between checking each of the new subdepartments, and no Points A and B on this ship are conveniently close together. It's always a long hike, but at least I'm almost done with this leg of the trip."

He shifted the large bag of wooden knobs in his arms. "I'm delivering to my house, but after this I think I need a water break. Before the tentacles decide to enforce one on me."

Billy glanced warily at the 'sky' ceiling, hoping nothing of the sort would assault him over the five block trip. "I think I can manage a few more blocks."

The Doctor peered over at the bag of knobs. Right, good point -- enforced break by tentacle might not be that pleasant. The Doctor made a deft movement like he was going to try to pluck the bag of wooden knobs out of Billy's arms, thinking the fella could use some help when he was starting to get red in the face.

"Rather surprising this ship doesn't have more teleports. Or teleporty things," he added, because there had been the way to the hangers which hadn't quite been a teleport but had been considerably faster than walking. Or jogging, like Billy here. "No one else in the department could help you?"

All right, so it wasn't very science-oriented. And there didn't seem to be much in the way of tinkering or jiggery-pokery (which he would have expected Kaylee and Billy to be involved with; Jamie, not so much). So maybe he could see why Billy didn't have any assistants. Still, a good jog never hurt anyone, had it? The Doctor kept up with Billy, not exactly puffing away.

Someone likely would have helped if Billy had asked, but he was just a stubborn guy jogging with doorknobs. Why he needed so many was a mystery even to him, but he trusted the unnamed experiment would have some useful component.

"We've tried to inquire about a teleportation system before, but there's the complication of the ship constantly moving through the Bleed. I have some experience with teleportation systems, but that complication's stalled the project for some time. Maybe I should ask about organizing another attempt."

Of course, the problem with the combination of jogging and sentences with high syllable counts is that it tends to expend oxygen rather quickly. Billy found himself flopping against an old brick wall three blocks down.

"Most of us are busy today. We're working out the department's new command structure and everyone's focusing on that."
