Age of Inexperience

There is a LOT more than I expected under the cut, so feel free to skip to the outside bit.

The latest talk on the comm had bothered Katara more than she let on. )

Zouichi wasn't sure what he expected to find when he wandered into someone else's simulation, but it certainly wasn't a young woman trying to punch out a robot. Boy, the people on this ship sure weren't fond of machines.

She was distressed and angry, or so it seemed to him, anyway, from the furious way she attacked her adversary. Having been told that things in the Sensoriums didn't really hurt people, he wasn't too concerned, so he simply called out to her. "Miss, are you all right?"

Katara had no problem if the design hurt her: she had essentially been told that she would be making situations where the worst could happen, and was only concerned with beating her adversary.

It's what Stacy had wanted all along, right? Fighting machines?

But at the voice, she stopped, and looked over.

"Yes, fine," she said. "It says to fight, so I do. What more is expected?"

"At least you're FIGHTING instead of moping. Maybe I've taught you something after all."

The Overlord, alone. Simply floating, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"Still. NOW what?"

She heard him, but right now she was going to concentrate on fighting. The recent exchange with that person had made her more than a little upset that she'd concentrated on healing. She went toward the T-1000 with speed, moving her arms and legs to narrowly avoid blasts and go straight toward the target, icing the floor beneath it.

All right, fine. If she needed to concentrate, he could be patient.

She turned, noting it was overlord Zetta.

She laughed. "I never thought you would be impatient about me fighting someone. You all right?"c

Beastboy watched with interest as Katara cut loose on the Sensoriums with the kind of passion that could only be driven by emotional pain and torment. He was all too familiar with the look in her eyes as she lashed out with a cry of anger at the robot thing.

Leaning against the wall he let her have her tantrum waiting to either be noticed or for a lull in her struggle so he could comment.

Katara didn't stop: the last time she and those robots fought had been pretty dire, and she had almost lost without Rtas. Still it didn't escape her notice that someone was watching, and eventually she stopped.

She hadn't liked being noticed this way, but what could she do?

"Hey."

"Feels good right?" He asked stepping forward and stretching, his arms windmilling for a moment, "Smashing an crashing, tearing up stuff? It's why I like fighting robots because you don't have to hold back."

"Something like that," Katara said, narrowly avoiding a shot by the robot. "It's definitely not the easiest thing in the world. This robot was one of the toughest things I've ever faced, to be honest. It was pretty scary."

"Whoa, someone has a lot of anger to take out," Karis drawled from the doorway. Yeah, the same person who bitched about people walking in on her was doing it to others. Not that recognized the girl as the same person from the comms. "Careful, you might hurt yourself."

Katara ducked out of the way from a blast from the robot, and she took appropriate action: water bullets straight to the temple to throw the robot off guard before she froze intro the midsection. Unlike most, the midsection was fairly hard and immensely difficult to cut through, but after thirty seconds Katara went through and then used her fist to smash into the temple before flipping across and using a water stream to severely sever the temple and neck.

"Good," she said. "It's about time people realized how serious I am."

So, the girl was some sort of magic user. Water-based. Almost like a shaman and a frost mage rolled into one vicious package. Man, that was nasty. Karis picked at her teeth with a claw and stepped further into the room. "Well, you're a kid. People don't take kids seriously."

Says the zombie. Then again, people do take zombies seriously. They just tend to use weapons.

At this, Katara took a horde of robots by surprise, moving quickly and coming on them with ice blasts to the head before immobilizing them in ice and kicking hard to the head to knock their perception askew. She took an icicle to the chest on each and kicked them hard, rendering them motionless.

"They should," she said darkly.

Well, this wasn't he been expecting, but it would work.

The plan was simple: Go to a sensorium, use a setup to let him gauge reactions to his return and see just what had changed. It made sense; He'd be able to plan a bit better for the whole 'you ran away' thing. He'd needed time; loosing Slo and Rose... it hurt. Still did. But, things are what they are, and he'd come back.

he hadn't expected to see Katara slugging it out with a robocop wannabe.

In hindsight, he should've checked to see if the damn thing was in use first.

Katara had been pretty concentrated, and would have continued it, had she not spied him. She stopped what she was doing immediately and the T-1000 faded.

"Static!" She said with glee, and got a running start and hugged him fiercely. "I haven't seen you in so long! Wow, I can't believe you're here, this is so great! I thought I'd never see you again! How have you been? Tell me everything!"

Well, she was in a good mood, apparently. Useful bit of knowledge, that. He laughed at the ferocity of her greeting as he hugged her back.

"Slow down, slow down now. It's good to see you too, Tidal." It had been a while, but once he gave someone a nickname, Virgil stuck to it. "I've been... busy. Had some stuff to work out, but I'm good now. How about you? What've I missed since we kicked TNK in the teeth?"

She grinned. she had actually missed the nickname, not to mention the fact that Static had really been someone she liked hanging around. Likely they were going to have a long talk when it came to the Outsiders, not to mention THAT question.

"I'm so glad to see you, but man, you've been gone for awhile, Static! The Nightmare King was more than a year ago. We've had to deal with an actual fight with the Ohm, the ship's captain is Leon now, we have more advanced weapons, and we have a TON more weapons now. I mean, I don't even know where to begin!"

And she adjusted her clothes, just so he wouldn't see the scar she got recently.
