Katara had chosen to be alone for awhile. She refused to make herself upset (she'd been upset enough in the past few weeks), but right now matters of the heart had been pretty much stinging her in every direction. Will was back, and she'd offered to help her in any way she could, but that didn't stop her from feeling guilty, or the fear that Matt would default to her. After finding out Sokka was back though, and the talk they'd had, she'd felt even less grounded. She'd opted to simply stay in the hotel, writing down ideas in her room and leaving the tears behind closed doors ( ... )

Matt was dumbfounded for a moment, and then smiled as he stepped forward. "I still need to talk to Will but... we're not the same people we are. And it wouldn't be fair at all to just drop you suddenly for someone who looks and feels like the same person... but isn't."

He sighed. "She's... from another world, and as much as I'd like to pick up where I left off I can't. Katara, believe me. I wouldn't mind it, everything tells me she is the same, but in my heart I know she isn't. That's why I need to let her go, and let her find someone else. Because it is NOT FAIR to anyone to be selfish."

He paused. "Okay, not selfish in keeping her, but I want to be selfish... and stay with you."

The pain in her chest lessened a little, and she did manage a smile here. "I wouldn't have blamed you if you did Matt. It would be hard for me, but I know what Will is like. And truthfully? You're right: I noticed the difference between this Will and that one anyway."

She fiddled with her fingers awkwardly. "I hadn't seen you in awhile, and I sort of had a few things happening in only a matter of a few days. I thought you and Will were catching up or something, I wasn't sure."

She blushed a little here, smiling awkwardly. "I'm glad you still want to. I ran into my brother: he's been pod popped, which is good because I really did miss him!"

Despite saying this, her smile didn't really reach her eyes.

Matt nodded, knowing that his Will and this Will were like night and day. Still it was a nice change to be had since his Will didn't get as fired up as this one did.

"Well I had to sort some stuff out first," he said lamely. "Mostly had to help Kang where I could. But yeah, I'm glad that your brother is back."

He sighed. "Something about that statement seems a little frustrated to me though."
